Diagram of screen*M*E*N*U*********->*** *....................* *....................* *....................* *....................* *[------]............* *[------]............* *[------]....@@^^^^oo* *[------]....@@----oo* "->" is the shovel (public works) icon. (some people think it looks like a hammer). The amount of public works you have is displayed here. [------] [------] [------] [------] represents the inset global map. "QQ" "QQ" - represents the clock-like feature with icons for army, empire, city production, etc. ^^^^^ represents the tabs for frankly I forget exactly what, (Empire, Units, ???, PWs) but one of them accesses public works. Each one actually looks more like: ::________:: :/::::::::\: /::title?::\ (pretend the colons are spaces) or maybe it has an icon. I haven't played for a week -- waiting for the WesW mod to get stable. oo oo - represents the area in which you select what tile improvement you want to use. Notice the four categories: land/water/special/Terraforming. Special includes forts (which extend your empire's borders two tiles, and give you vision BUT NOT OF UNITS!) and radar/sonar placements and Obselisks (for science victory). Terraforming allows you to change useless terrain to useful terrain, but at a high cost. Amount of public works per turn == selected in F1 (empire) screen as % of production. As for your machine, it sounds kinda slow.

control-g shows your progress toward science victory. When the # in upper-right >= 60% (and you have 10+ controllers and 10+ sattelites), the bar at the top starts flashing. When you hit it, it starts a ten-turn countdown. At the end of the ten turns, the Gaia Controller fires up and you win.Your problem may simply be that you haven't "launched" yet. Radius of Obselisks depend of # of sattelites. Have 17+ sattelites for best radius (8). Note: Obselisks can be built in sea, and in allied territory. Don't feel bad: I read posts assiduously for a couple weeks before I finally figured all this out. Activision didn't bother explaining any of this -- the manual sucketh big time!

I assume you mean ironclads (there are no more frigates in CTP2), though it may be in the translation. They are not meant to bombard land. The default is to require at least a battleship to bombard land. To make the game more realistic, you can edit the Ship-Of-The-Line and the Ironclad to bombard cities and units as in real life, they could and did. Go into your Ctp2/ctp2_data/default/gamedata/units.txt file and add in the line: CanBombard: Land to the end of the ship-of-the-line and ironclad entries. |

The max size of a city IS 60. The scoring is all messed up as far as rewarding points for cities based on population. I don't think I've ever gotten points for city size over 100,000 even though I've had cities more than double that size. |

To build a fusion plant you need to first build a nuclear plant. Double check to make sure you've built nuclear plants. If you have, not sure what the problem is. The build queue advancing is a known bug/feature.

Didn't they address this problem already in patch 1.1? I think the warning message now appears several terms earlier. |

I finally got this game to work. I wanted to post my solution in case it could help others who were having the same problem. I think it's ridiculous that I have to go through this to play a game. I still think the game was a rush job. I was able to get the game to play by adjusting the audio acceleration to basic. This is done in Control Panel - Multimedia - Advanced Settings. Drag the acceleration bar to the second notch from the left. Also make sure there are no programs running in the background. |

Did you try to load your saved game from within another game or did you try to load from the Main Menu? The patch should get rid of that problem as several other save game bugs were fixed. Was that the first time you tried to reload and did it happen with any other save game files.------------------ " mind over body " |

what do the 60% represent? 60% of the world map covered? what exactly increases that number? how far you can "spread out" the obelisks (to cover the most area)? sorry if this is a stupid question, Activision should have explained it in the Great Library or at least in the manual. |

Cheers Darkknight !Installing in Z-drive, how would that work ? The problem is that I get a message something like "CTPII has detected Windows NT 4.0 on your system. CTPII required Windows 95,98 or 2000" which appears before I even have the chance to run the setup or choose where to install it Does anyone else know about this Z drive installation, or any other getaround ? Thanks, neilr ... |

Thanks Didymus, Sure as hell more infor than in the manual. When I get home from work tonight, I'll give it a try and if I'm still confused, at least I'll know what I'm confused about. And yeah, looking forward to a much faster machine. It ran ok the first 100 turns. RAH I really appreciate getting a response to the real easy things. I'm sure it's been asked many times before, but I looked back and didn't see it. Thanks again.

I have the same problem. Pretty lame it doesn't recognize a newer version. It works anyway, though. Just don't start the game from the CD. Have the CD in the drive, but start the game from the Start menu. Then I have had no problems (at least with this part). |
