And we're still kicking! Seven cities now, and more coming. Warwick, when it's a pop 2 city can produce 6 shields/turn! And now... A short history of the Tory tribe, 2950 bc - 2000 bc. 2950 - Exploring on land, but keeping an eye to the sea. And I see a barbarian raiding party off the coast. 2850 - Barbarians land 2800 - Writing has been researched. Now working on pottery as we understand that truly wonderous things can be done with pottery given the right setting, like maybe that garden in Finchley... Hut, Warrior Code. Warwick built. 2750 - China discovers philisophy 2700 - Hut 50G 2650 - Hut Barbs! Explorer lost. :-( 2450 - Pottery discoverd, now researching Bronze Working (The ruler, who claims to be hard of hearing, has just discovered that wonders are disabled. :rolleyes 2350 - Newcastle built, Hut 50G 2100 - BW discovered. (oh well, at least the phalanxes are nice) Working on Currency. Oxford was built this year. 2050 - Hut Currency. To the next Ruler: If you take the horsemen near Newcastle due east you may find a barb leader before he escapes. Good luck on your journey. Download the Save Game Here. John-SJ I'll edit this message shortly when I get the save game up for you all to d/l. Report from OlympusYou have been lucky thus far - both the Mongols and Zulus have chosen to play perfectionist! In my test game I had already encountered Mongol cities by this stage (with a similar quantity of exploration). You are still bottom of the PowerGraph - the nearest being about 100% ahead of you. As I said earlier, "so far, so good". Finished 500 years and am passing on to Julius. In the early days of our people, there were many small towns scattered across the face of the land. Meager support was found in them for the defense of the inhabitants. So it was that the elders of the Most High Council set forth on a course to find new ways to protect the people, new ways to seek divine favour from the Most High gods. Polytheism with its oliphants and many gods was chosen as the way to seek out new lands and deliverance from our enemies. Then, within 50 winters, a new city was begun. Liverpool it was called and a prophecy of a group of leaders with strange hair and music in their voices was foretold (but that’s a story for another time). Polytheism was discovered after another 150 winters and Iron Working was decreed as the next area to improve ourselves. Mighty are our foes and strong we must be to vanquish them. Another 150 winters passed. The world seemed peaceful. But peace and harmony can be transient. Lo! Barbarians at the eastern edge of the empire. Valiantly our lone knight fought. Courageously he stood his ground. Victoriously he triumphed! (How else would one triumph?) The concept of Trade was found lying in a dirty hut, a gift horse not to be laughed at. Roads were begun for the purpose of connecting our great cities, to aid in their defense should the need arise. And as the sun set on this era in our history, a single settler was seen taking the first step towards what was hoped to be Nirvana. A mountain of gold in the south, seen from afar, beckoned this brave nomad. And off he went as the reigns of power were passed to the next in line to command our noble people.

Why so much hatred ? 1300 BC Dover founded. 1250 BC Brighton founded. 100g from a hut. 1100 BC Chivalry, map making is next. Norwich founded. 1050 BC Leeds founded. In a shocking departure from tradition, King Dave concentrated on building up infrastructure and trade routes. With Bridge Building on the horizon, we should be able to make Finchley a mighty trading center. A brief history:1000 Upon succession, King Dave decrees sweeping changes to the kingdom. Hmmm, I finally got around to downloading the original scenario for the game we're playing just to see our empire from it's humbles beginning. I noticed that there is an events.txt file included with the scenario. Do all players need a copy of this, or are the events saved in the save game file making it unneccessary for all players after the first?John-SJ

Game sent to John and copy to everybody. --------- BC 500 - There seems little point in reversing the late King Dave's perfectionist policy. Finchley may not be a Super Science City - but with no wonders we will have to settle for a Super Science Suburb! (I'm guessing that the City Walls building in the capital is a slow burn for an aqueduct?) 475 - Tech rate now 6 per turn with Finchley celebrating. 450 - Advance Tribe - Reading founded. 425 - Construction - next research target is Bridge Building. The bad news is that the tech rate is 10 - the last one was the 20th. 400 - Birmingham founded with Finchley's settler. Tech rate now 9 375 350 - Caravan: Dover to Finchley 26g; Oxford - Finchley 22g; Warwick - Finchley 26g Richmond founded - Tech rate now 8; 325 - Wine mine at Finchley complete 300 - Leeds copper caravan to Finchley (demanded) 60g 275 - Finchley builds aqueduct - Bridge Building discovered - now the choice of our next research: Mysticism/The Republic/Seafaring/The Wheel are offered - I could make a case for all of them - but have put in Republic in case my successors want to take perfectionism a stage further! Mongol knight has just appeared! (NE of Reading - Now an ex-knight) Caravans: Canterbury to Finchley - 22g; Newcastle - Finchley 30g 250 225 Salt to Finchley from Norwich (demanded) 52g 200 175More like an OCC log!! ------------- SG(2) |

There is a real danger that we could reach the 255 city limit on this game - what happened on the other giga succession game.ICS is Infinite City Sleaze - so when the "Infinite" part no longer works we are by definition playing something different. OK, I finished my turn and forwarded the game to KCBob via e-mail, copied to others as well. Here then, is a log of my exploits.A short history of the Tory tribe, 150 bc - 260 ad. 150 - Gold caravan, Warwick->Finchley, 25G 125 - Republic discovered. On to The Wheel (working toward invention). I have chosen not to attempt a Republican government at this time. Many of our cities are yet small and trade poor. I fear it would be all to easy for the support costs to impede the progress of important undertakings or for the lack of luxuries to cause too much unrest. 100 - Gold caravan, NewCastle->Finchley, 28G 75 - 50 - Finchley Builds Colosseum, (WOW! The people are so happy!) hut 50G 25 - 1 AD - Silk Caravan, Leeds->Finchley, 66G 20-260 - The events during this period hardly seem worth recording. Nothing of much note happened, but during this quiet time in history many great projects were undertaken. I have commanded our cities to produce settler units to round out our improvement forces. As I look out over or great(?) civilization I see our people building roads to increase trade, and inside our cities we are building temples to help deal with unrest, especially in the further reaches of our empire. One day soon it is hoped that we can replace our current monarchy with a more modern and efficient republican government. During this time several trade routes were also established. Our goal is to maximize trade for each city, but this goal must be balanced with a need for temples. Our scientists have been busy as well. In 75 bc we discoverd the wheel, and in 140 ad our wise men unveiled the secrets of engineering! As a final act during my reign I have ordered the builders of several cities to begin work on libraries, that our scientists might be able to conduct research faster. John-SJ |

So far, so good. The Lady Ribannah decided to keep her NONE Settlers to work the terrain around Castle Gobs, there is a bright future for the capital. Hopefully none of the great powers will notice us for the time being ....The tiny village of Castle Gobs produced an extra Settlers fast, taking into account that a 1-size lone city cannot be disbanded. Shortly after, the first increase in city size was celebrated. In the year 3000 BC the Settlers arrived at a nice spot for a new city (whales and pheasant, as detected by our explorer The Jolly Bard), to be founded within the next 50 years. Our wizards have taken great steps towards a famous modern type of government, called Republic. We are not exactly sure what to think of it, after all Lady Ribannah is doing fine without any advice, but who knows? -4000 Castle Gobs [19,163] already founded {working peat, then 2xwine} -3850 Alphabet, {peat,2xwine} -3700 Writing, {whales,4xwine} -3500 wine mined -3450 Code of Laws, {whales,4xwine} -3200 Settlers(Cas) -3150 Castle Gobs=2 -3050 Literacy Deity MGE ------------------ If you have no feet, don't walk on fire |
