A undefeated Diety players story Part fourAll-out war The attack on The Greek capitol of Athens was, despite successful, absolutely disastrous! The Greeks had obvious anticipated The attack, as this was The only city I could attack, not that it came as a surprise, but The amount of looses astounded me. I lost 3+ of my attacking size 9 armies to The Greek army on The walls of Athens. This effectively lead to a halt in my conquest of The Greeks as I dug in on The one tile now separating my nation and The Greeks. The war with The Greeks was reduced temporary to hit and run tactics while The wait for reinforcements to The Greek line initiated. I would dispatch half of The newly constructed units from this point in time to The Greek frontline, thus taking some of The upcoming momentum to The German campaign away, which were about to launch with 5 size 9 armies into The hearth of The German nation. The strategic situation with The Germans was allot better then The one with The Greeks. I was able to avoid The frontline city The Germans had close to my border. I sent more than half of my combined army around this city, penetrating deep into German territory, towards citys further behind, thus drawing defenders form The frontline city, and other citys to intercept these armies in order to prevent them from taking these less defended citys. The scattered German armies were easy prey, as my armies with minimal losses, slaughtered The German armies in The open on grassland. I almost head The spirit of The Germans crack, as The last of their notable armies was sent to rest on The grassland in The heart of their own nation. And with more units streaming continuously into The evermore decreasing German territory, I knew that The German nation soon would be a mere memory in The minds of my still growing German slave-population. Gearing up yet again
As I discovered The technology of Gunpowder, I would now once again turn my attention towards The Greeks. I had 2 size 9 armies at The Greek border, which was making small advances into Greek territory, but I would wait awhile with a all-out attack, until I could cut their Pikemen down with musketeers. Off cause I would make sure to be The one that was to build The emancipation act wonder, with all my slaves, that seemed as a very good idea! But that wasn’t worrying me very much, as I was The one, who were building all of The wonders at this time. More to come...

As cool as usual :-)I have one question though... are you playing with some sort of time-slowing mod...? I'm asking because I never ever have time to build so many units... I mean usually my whole army in the modern age is a few stacks that I casually drop near the ennemy's key cities to blitzkrieg them to death before making peace again for a while. Before modern age I just try to avoid war because I know I won't be able to build that many units :-) Daniel ------------------ http://dwdt.xs.mw

KdanENSLAAAVE!! War means SLAVES!! Slaves equals production-enhancement!! War is GOOD!! It‘s because you don’t take every opportunity you get to enslave your enemy (or your friends ), during The time frame in which this is possible (Emancipation act ), that you are experiencing problems with ancient and pre-modern warfare. If you from 4000bc continuously enslave everything and everybody, keeping 1 slaver with every stack of military-units, even those defending your citys, then your citys will be almost twice The size of your neighbors in no time. This fact combined with a rational choice of city-sites and The research effort aimed towards boosting production, should provide more than adequate production rates in your citys, within a reasonable time-frame. THEN GO KICK SOME AI ASS!! ENSLAAAAAAAAAAVVVE!!!!! By The way…I NEVER use any mods! Enslave them all!! Thomas Diemar [This message has been edited by Diemar (edited September 28, 1999).] |

You know what... I decided to slow down my game and did that modification that whoever mentioned to get 10 times as many turns and 1/10 the research speed... and at the same time I found out how to really use slaves...The really really cool thing is that now I actually got to use all the units. I was very glad when I discovered bronze working so I could have phalanxes along with my warriors to be sure to resist against my neighbour's legions, and have a chance of killing them too, I was extatic when at last (after a couple hundred turns from the start) I discovered domestication and, at last, had a ranged attack unit to be more sure to win - etc. And all through this I used slavers everywhere, enslaving my dear neighbour's slavers and everyone I beat... and I have to say this bloody rules! Now I've just built the emancipation act. I've got 3 cities over size 30, who up to now were filled some with up to 21 slaves! I LOVE it. It's so cool having a size 30 city that also keeps growing all the time because the slaves hardly eat anything... The cool thing is although I misfired on the turns slowdown (2900 BC and built the emancipation act :-P) that doesn't really matter since I got the research slow down right, I think... I just changed the research handicap from 25 to 250 in the DbDiff.txt file... anyone know of a better way? The thing is, right now I've got a very massive civilization thanks to all the slaving I did (I had roving stacks of samurai+archers+slaver wandering around my nearest competitor's territory, fighting all units they could kill without damage on the spot :-) ), and my research has kind of sped up - ie I can research stuff like Gunpowder etc... in 11 turns. Now I know that's a lot of turns, but as I said that game is slowed down... except that at 11 turns/advance I won't get to use all of the units :-( Especially when I start having research labs and stuff... I'm not sure it will slow down again when I reach "critical mass" or if my research will keep on growing exponentially... So... anyone know of a more... constant way of slowing down research? Because this way it was slowed down too much in the beginning, and not enough once I got my cities so over-sized... which is easy when you've got so many turns to slave... Anyway... Now I can try to use this on a normal game... but I still think that the slowed down game, although obviously very slow and tedious at times, is better than the normal game... More strategy, more buildup... Daniel |

KdanYou can do several things to slow down the research rate, even within normal setup parameteres. One being setting the amount of goods on the map to virtualy none existing. Another being playing on a very small map, with alot of opponents. And then you kan play the ulimate game, play with the settings of my game, which i'm writeing a story about, but offcause in this case you would have to cheat a little in order to get 30 players on the map Enslave them all!! Yeah, I've done that (the no-goods bit) which saved me from having to build the Labyrinth - which I couldn't have built anyway... But still it's going too fast! Now it only takes me 10 turns to discover things like railroad, and 4 turns for stuff like Machine Tools... That's WAY too fast to have time to enjoy all the units fully...So are you playing it slowed down (in terms of years/turn) or not?? I did try a game with 30 players a while ago but with the P166 I have over here in Geneva, it kind of gets ridiculously slow... Daniel ------------------ http://dwdt.xs.mw

KdanThen just play on a smaller map, with as many computer players, that your computer adequately kan support. This will mean that everone directs more resources towards military, in order to keep what land they have. This, Combined with alomost no goods, should slow things down. By the way...has everybody lost interest in my game because of my resent absence? Enslave them all!! Thomas Diemar

So many days since my last connexion ...Diemar, come back please, we need the next part. KDan, I have slowed the time of the game : at the beginning 1 turn = 5 years, so from 4000BC to 0 it takes 800 turns ... I have also downed the science rate in the govern.txt file : divided by 100 (you have to modify each government ). The only problem is to save enough gold for science (100 gold = 1 recherch) very hard at the start. I didn't change the research handicap in the DiffDB.txt (I just learned it so I will experience). I have found that in advance.txt who can change the cost of each advance, long no ? Hope that will help you.
