Here is something I've always wished for in Civ2 - the option to play a game in only one era of history. I happen to like the age of legions and horsemen but ancient eras tend to speed by very quickly. In CTP2 there was a way to remain in one era for a whole game by going to multiplayer and fiddling around with the options there. I couldn't get it to work but that's not much of a surprise. I like playing from 4000 BCE to 2020 CE but sometimes I want to play one historical period. Does anyone know if this is possible to do in Civ2 and if it might be possible in Civ3? |

It is possible if you fiddle around with rules.txt. You can either remove the undesirable techs, or split the tech tree through pre-requisit editing. |

You could also save you game as a scenario, then make the tech rate rediculously high. I guess the only problem is that the computer will still waste its time trying to discover them. |

In TOT you could ban players from using certain techs, like in a scenario you could stop an Alien civ researching combustion for example.. but it might be easier just to remove the prerequisite techs in the rules file for techs you don't want discovered(should work with all civ versions)Admiral Pete Emperor of the Babelfish'homeplanet oceanus |

Heh. I know this feeling, I always wanted to be able to change all the units and cities to look like they were perpetually in teh classical age, but still allow technological improvements, (tanks would thus look like legions or some such). Never quite agot aroudn to doing it though. |

I don't think it will work with Civ 1 (had all rules in the EXE-files) [This message has been edited by vgriph (edited May 06, 2001).] |
