Question: Why are all the advisors white men? |

i noticed that too. eventhough i am a white male, i think there should be some variety. it looks too wierd the way it is, and it is very unrealistic. plus, i thought that this game was "culture" oriented more so than any previous version? well, it doesnt look like it! |

I didn't notice either. but if thats the case, it is odd.perhaps they are based on famous people, ie the entertainment was elvis, something else this time is Sid. . who knows. Does it really matter what color any of them are? |

I guess its cause I don't really care about skin color. i guess it's 'cause you're privileged. i'm sure if they were all black women, you would definitely have noticed. so don't tell me you don't really care about it. you're just privileged.

And what does being privileged insiunate?
not to me, but apparently it does matter to Firaxis what color and sex they are, because they're all white and they're all men! It obviously matters to you since you brought this subject up. Anyhow, don't go digging where theres no gold. People accused George Lucas of being racist because that trader in Episode I with the big nose was like a steoreotypical Jew.

They're all men, but I don't think they are all white. If the eventual advisors are going to have little video scenes a la CivII, then those may not have been filmed yet and in the mean time we've got snaps of the seven coders who were sitting around when they needed some head shots. I hope they bring back Elvis.  |

Man, why'd they have Briggs be the military adcisor? They should have gotten Colin Powell, or at least James Earl Jones ( If he was good enough for TS...)------------------

Wait a minute! This whole thread is just plain silly.Why not have the Advisors resemble the actual creators of the game?! They (Firaxis) have put and continue to put ALOT of hard work into this creation. Why not give credit where credit is due? IMO, I think having the actual creators of the game as the game's advisors a BRILLIANT idea! Now if a female is on the staff who actually had a hand in the games creation, then sure put her in there. If someone who isn't of Caucasian complexion is also on the staff and had a hand in the game's creation then place him/her in there too. Come on folks, lets not rain on the creators of Civilization III's 15 minutes of fame and end up turning this thread into a racist/sexist issue!
It's a game (and looking to be a VERY good game at that). If the creators of CIVIII just happen to be all Caucasian males, then so be it. Having their pictures as the Advisors is a proper reward for their hard work (be them white, black, yellow, male, female, or even neuter for that matter!). Sorry to ramble on so, but I had to get this off my chest. (Wittlich steps down off of the soap box)

I also agree with Witt. I think it makes a lot of sense for the advisors to be people from Firaxis. Also, I think it is very cool. it will be fun to have Sid help me in the game.
Besides, Firaxis is making the game so I think they have a right to put themselves in their own game.Civ3 does not need Political Correctness! ------------------

Ummm, sorry to step in front of your parade, but I don't want the designers to be my advisors. Anymore than I want George Lucas to play Obi-wan Kenobi. These guys are making an entertainment product - the decision as to what faces to use for the advisors should be done so as to maximise the enjoyment of the game. If there is any acting involved they should hire actors, dammit, not indulge in ego-stroking.His name is above the title already - give him a bigger trailer or a daily fruit basket, but don't let him star in the product. |

Why not? Mel Brooks and Alfred Hitchcock stars/starred in all of their movies. Your right Sid will most likely have his name on the box cover of CIV3...but what about all of the other creators of the game? Sid is not doing this single-handedly you know.

Actually Insigna, Africans have migrated to russian just llike they did to US, they speak perfect Russian and they behave almost like Russians. Everything is just like US.

This is a minor issue that they nevertheless can change very easily and quickly, the next couple of months. Perhaps it is the development-team of Civ-3 that are advisors - in that case, its perfectly OK. --------------- edited:
