From hearing people remember the little things in CivI, I was wondering if people would like a little tongue-in-cheek humor in Civ again. As we've all seen the leader portraits and advisors look like cartoons, why not extend that idea a bit without actually changing the gameplay.Items such as: Newspaper headlines (see the CivI thread for this) Elvis wearing his sunglasses even in 4000BC Elvis even in the game Playing a game over 40 hours, I wouldn't mind a little humor being thrown in. Any ideas for others? Flat out opposition to a little more fun? I really would like to see the Frenchman from Monty Python and the Holy Grail in the game. People will call it derogatory, but come one, anything with John Cleese is histerical. - Oh yeah, this idea would not in anyway effect gameplay or any game mechanics, just have stuff like diplomacy with a little humor, not changing options. That's why I missed the advisors from civ2! They were funny! (As you know they were taken away from civ2ToT.) I love Monty Python, though. But I fear that it will be to difficult/expensive to get permission to use python figures (head-tapping frenchman, the fish, Cleese, Arthur etc.) in the game. |

I wasn't looking for use of Monty Python exactly, just I really like the Frenchman. I'm not exactly sure how you could keep the overall feel of the game and incorporate Monty Python without being too over-the-top. Stuff like the newspaper headlines though from CivI would be great. That or people cancelling riots because they ran out of poster boards and markers, just kinda goofy explanations for the regular game mechanics. |

what about some scenes from "life of Bryan" arond year 0some humor would definatly be good. But I fear that when you play the game over and over the funny will turn anyoing. But yes, sounds good. |

Well, if it becomes annoying, turn it off! After all; it should be optional. |

yeah, Life of Brian, all the cities that revolt should be identified as the Popular Peoples Judean Front, or the Judean People's Popular Front, derivatives like that.Seperatists!! I am kinda liking this, there isn't a chance in hell any of this will show up in the game, but I can always hope [This message has been edited by SerapisIV (edited April 19, 2001).]

If Civ3 retains Civ2's flexibility, many of these wishes could be implemented at will. Editing the Game.txt file, I was able to completely change the game's diplomacy dialogue.------------------ Regards, Col. Rhombus |

That is EXACTLY the idea I had with this thread. When a "We Love the X Day" ends, that would be perfect way to say it ended. |

The news papers were a good touch in civ1. kind of like the news papers you could read in simcity2000. did you ever read any of the articles? they were histerical! But it's the kind of things that's there if you want to look at it, but if you don't, it's never in your way. surprise us with little things like that. ------------------ connorkimbro ------------------ Try the Proximitron to kill the E-Bay pop-up ads!! http://accs-net.com/prox/ |
