...that Civ3 will be completely customizable to make it any type of civ-based game you want??? It seems that some folks here just haven't played much with Civ2 lately to see all of the hundreds of customized units, leaders, terrains, tech trees, scenarions, event files, etc. that have been developed. Civ3 will have even more of that. You are worried that Civ3 might not be enough emphasis on the ancient/medieval/future eras? Civ3 will have all of the customizability to create (for example) every single ancient unit known to history playing in a scenario that goes by 1 day at a time (if you want). Why even bother whining for the next 8 months about what things look like or what you can/can't do when you (or others) will be able to do nearly whatever you like through customization?

Here was the quote from the Firaxis site (which, imo, is the single greatest statement that they could have ever made)...

quote:

we're committed to the scenario/mod community, and we realize that the ability to create diverse, interesting scenarios is one of the major reasons for Civilization II's enduring popularity.

I wholeheartedly agree with you. It would be a nice help for this customization drive, though, if Firaxis alleviated or at least increased the limits of some crucial variables in the game, especially no. of civs in one game, but also no. of cities possible to built per game, etc.

Right. But some of the things that have been discussed do concern certain basic limitations of current civ games, which can't be customized: like overall number of civs, user-defined wonders, types of victory conditions (e.g. allowing an "allied victory"), etc. I think it's great if we keep coming up with ideas about these things, and if Dan and others at Firaxis keep listening -- as they obviously have been doing.

I have to agree with Steve as well. There are a lot of historical scenarios out there that, IMOHO, are really quite good.

I can understand not having the time to make them, but you really don't have far to go to download some of the good stuff that's out there.
