The AI for the game should work like so.

It should analyze how well you have played in the game and thus determine how hard you have been playing and thus adjust its style to that (even if, for a time it means to be harder than you set it for), this can prolong the game's replayability and enjoyment because some levels are too easy and others are far too hard (Emperor with the tech lowering and no allies)

But what happens if the AI gets smashed really early before it even realises?

Like if your civ only had a few units (so the AI thinks you're weak) but you sent them all to attack the other civ. By the time the AI realises, it would already be dead, even on Deity.

No, in Australia we don't live with kangaroos and koalas in our backyards... Despite any stupid advertisments you may see to the contrary... (And no, koalas don't usually speak!)

How do you suggest it 'adjust its style'? I agree with Ultra in that you could easily confuse the AI. What I know we're all hoping for is a clever, resourceful, uncheating AI that will provide hours of gaming heaven.

I have to agree with the posts before me, that an "adjustable" AI is not very feasible.

What I would suggest is 3 different modes for the AI:

1)Beginner.
In this mode, the AI would be very basic. Easy to beat. This mode would be ideal for beginners who are just learning how to play.

2)realistic.
In this mode, the AI would be programmed to "mimic" human gameplay styles. The AI might not always be very cunning but it would offer different personalities. Some AI civs would be warmonger, others would be "builders", still others would have a "momentum" style.
This mode would be perfect for the player who enjoys civs with different personalities and likes to "roleplay".

3)expert.
In this mode, the AI would be cunning, aggressive and dirty (but not cheating). This mode would be perfect for the player who is not interested in "roleplaying" but just wants a real challenge. There would be several levels in this mode:easy, medium, good, hard, expert, etc which would determine just how agressive the AI would be!

Hopefully there is more than one AI - opponent.
Ofcourse you can send all your military to smash another country, but during that time, barbarians and other civs will take their chance smashing you. I mean, hopefully there is more than one ai-opponent in a game.

But i have a suggestion to prevent this kind of unrealistic scenario. No more magic units disappearance, once capturing a city the supported units doesn't disappear, they just beacome independent.
So once you smashed that superior ai-civ it can still take back their cities and maybe smash you aswell.

What I am speaking of is of an 'adaptable' AI which adapts to the user, It could use the Diplomat's formula however.

All your units going towards the computer units would not necessarily destroy it; suppose they came and attacked, the computer has a settler (they always do) when your units are within 3 squares of their city (even if peace treaty), the settler is sent away into the north and founds a city with a 'cheating' AI building two of the defensible units.
