In Civ II, to win by an Alpha Centauri victory you had to build the ship yourself, part by part. In SMAC the backstory is based on the U.N. nations building a single ship. Now Civ III's endgame story must be like the preface of the Alpha Centauri backstory. This leaves a gap bacause how does one nation "win" by helping to build the Unity? And after the Unity leaves does the world suddenly get very bad and everyone hates everyone and the war that ended all human life starts? Afterall we have to empty this rock for the end of SMAC. |

I would have to suggest the complete opposite of that. You'll see what I mean when the next column comes out, I think.

How do you figure? I don't remember anyone from Firaxis saying that this would be the case. |

Civ III Victory Conditions-Standard -World Conquest -Travel to Alpha Centauri (alone) -Diplomatically Unite World (Then send to Alpha C) -Market Cornering -Get elected world leader for 500 years More Radical -Build the Mind Control Unit -Have a happiness ratio of 5-1 on every civ (world revolt to join you) |

Yes, there should definitely be "happy" victory endings and "less happy" ones, ex. all the science and diplomatic victory endings would lead to a utopian earth, but the conquest one should seem much more dark. Even a market cornering ending would have a neocolonialism feel, forcing everyone to buy from you [This message has been edited by JamesJKirk (edited December 03, 2000).] |

Well since they are aiming at a "Sweep of Time" wouldn't you think that Firaxis would like to link the games somehow?

Actually, I doubt that SMAC will have anything to do with Civ3 or its endgame. If it does, then I owe you a drink. |

SMAC IS based on Civ's endgame; in Civ II you build a spaceship to go to Alpha Centauri! |

Persoannly I like the idea of bringing world unity, like they are trying to do to Europe at the moment, this could make an interesting victory.------------------ I have walked since the dawn of time and were ever I walk, death is sure to follow |

More than bringing it -- maintaining world unity should be possible end scenario. |

"You" is the key word there. In SMAC the U.N. built it and I am addressing how that will fit in in Civ II.

Hell, that's a game all in itself . Maybe you should have to build the most of the unity. All nations can build components of the unity (i.e. the one ship) and whichever civ has the greatest percentage of components, wins. ------------------ - Biddles "Now that our life-support systems are utilising the new Windows 2027 OS, we don't have to worry about anythi......."
