I think that units which go through deserts, arctic-regions or mountains should get some damage. Example: As Hannibal tried to get over the alps with his war-elephants he lost nearly all! And try to go with a huge army through the Sahara. Isntīs much fun at all...------------------ ----Mongolia Rules------ |

I had the same idea with polar regions in the "Automatic Polar Caps" thread. It should make use of terrain more fun, I think... |

We had a thread on this a while ago. Let's see if we could find it. However, if units get damaged on any terrain, it wouldn't be very fun to play. |

How about 'Mined field' terrain improvement? It will sure help protect those remote areas from unwanted visitors An of course, a Demining Engineer unit P.S. Maybe this post is just the influence of a recent visit to Croatia |

Doh! The idea's so obvious and so simple! The idea should be implemented through simple flags in the rules.txt. Units classified an ancient/middle ages would get lots of damage, while more modern units (with air con/heating) will get less damage. Civs with (advanced?) flight could get the damage reducef to zero because they'll airlift in supplies like they do with refugees in real life.------------------ No, in Australia we don't live with kangaroos and koalas in our backyards... |

Could this be what you're looking for? quote:
*Extreme climates damage units. I went over this more throughly in another thread, but the gist is this; Some units (chariots, tanks, etc.) may not enter (swamp, mountain w/o roads/passes). Other units take damage as they move through (bogged down, disease, exposure, etc.) Some special units would be immune in specific terrain (alpine in mountains, tundra, marines in jungle/swamp). The special units would also be immune to movement penalties, but would not get a road multiplier. Some immune to all climates (partisan, explorer). Bases, cities protect against extreme climates.
