It's time for a new fortnight game and I'm using Solo's river map from the "No spaceship parts before 1 AD" thread for this game. I made a 2.42 save out of the map that he sent me, so everyone should be able to play it. You can download it here. Have fun. |

I'm sorry for my silly question but how do you make Civ2 to write a log file? |

Alas, you can't! You will have to do it yourself. Have Notepad running in the background and minimize the Civ2 screen when you want to make a note.Hopefully there will be an automated log in Civ3 ------------------ If you have no feet, don't walk on fire |

I'm no OCC Vet, (just one previous game) but this map caught my attention! For the OCC purist, I guess the problem with this game is one of sheer luck. The last one to Invention has a great chance to win! I won't start making excuses that the Leo's tech rolled out so soon (I think it was possible to catch another 21 advances), so long as you lot don't laugh too loudly at the log. Questions about the Hanging Gardens and Recycling Centre will be explained … in my memoirs. Thank you to Paul and Solo for providing a very enjoyable game. Deity/2.42

Perhaps I had given a tad too much science away! The Aztecs started building an amazing number of structurals in record time, so an army of spies was sent in to do a little sabotaging. I noticed how easy it was to destroy their spaceship production - spy casualty rates were very low. I will let the espionage testers know this on the relevant thread. --------------- SG(2)

The last one to Invention has a great chance to win! I won't start making excuses that the Leo's tech rolled out so soon (I think it was possible to catch another 21 advances), so long as you lot don't laugh too loudly at the log.

Maybe we can play this map again with the huts removed. Paul, could you make such a scenario for us? Edit: same suggestion for OCC#22, that could keep us going for a few fortnights ------------------ If you have no feet, don't walk on fire [This message has been edited by Ribannah (edited February 09, 2001).] |

Scouse GitsInvention seldom comes earlier than it did for you! Just helps to prove my point that this game was not that suitable for pure comparison play, but it was worth doing for the pure fun of it. No laughs from me, either about your log. The integrity of your play, and your landing prior to 1000 with such an unlucky start was most impressive. I also learned something new by studying your log: how to trigger wandering nomads. They are my favorite hut result. Thanks for that tip. Ribannah Super idea to remove the huts and replay on this map, though I can't see how to do it with the map editor. My knowledge of setting up games/scenarios is very limited, as you are already aware. Paul must know a way of doing this. I am working on a new map which will only have one hut, available right at the start. Each player gets to reset until he or she gets the result desired, but after that no freebies. The available city sites will be limited, and not so favorable for trade. It will also contain a few surprises. I hope to have it ready for a future OCC game, because I think it will be a better test of player skills and knowledge. |

SoloFrom my hut testing I think you may be able to have more than one NON settler - but on different continents. The only time when they will appear from grassland/plains squares is when the surrounding terrain is poor for food. (The game considers an Advanced Tribe would not be viable) Near or on the polar regions is the best place to find them - though they can pop out from woods, swamp or jungle. The above is only a guide - more testing to come! __________ SG(2) |

I had mined some grasslands to forests after I had celebrated to max size. So I was losing food and lost my engineers. After that pollution contributed to some more famine. I would have done something about it, but it wasn't really necessary because I was already building my spaceship. |

Here's my log of the OCC fortnight #23. I know that my 1546 landing isn't very good, but it was my first OCC fortnight game so I don't have to be ashamed. (I have played a few OCC games before.)I think one of the reasons for my late AC landing was unluck (early Invention, followed by little "hut techs", no Monarchy or Republic from huts). But what else did I do wrong? Perhaps one of you OCC-experts could give me some advice for my next OCC game? You allready got the main thing in this one.Getting "lucky" or "unlucky" with Invention.Seems like keeping an Invention pre-req in the "joker" tech slot is the key. |

Bridge Building often gets in the way (and later Banking or Atomic Theory). But note that the tech you are researching is by definition also a joker tech, since it obviously stays available.------------------ If you have no feet, don't walk on fire |

DountyBeing stuck in despotism for so long did you in. Even average luck with invention lets you start as a Monarchy or Republic. WLTDD was your only option, and I see you made use of it. Perhaps more caravans very early, before building Colossus, library, marketplace would have helped you to a better form of government a little earlier. More early caravans speed up early science, and commodities only last so long before you are stuck with only food. Once a city gets to a decent size, Colossus, library, etc. become more effective. But this was a special situation. In the usual OCC game, Colossus first is the best move because you usually have nothing better to do. But in a nutshell, you were held back about 1000 years by bad luck and did the best with what you were given. The thing that helped me improve my OCC play the most was to study the logs of the players who do the best and to keep practicing on old scenarios while referring to the logs of the best players, so I could compare how I was doing in my own practice games. All that tribute and all those gifts you managed was quite amazing! I am not good at this. Please clue me in on how you do this so effectively! Are you playing MGE or an earlier version? In my games I only managed one alliance. After that, no amount of free tech would warm up any of the other AI to form one. Also, if I talked to them too often, they just cut me off, but you seemed to get away with your constant contacts. I must be doing something wrong. Can you help? ------------------ It is more pleasant to live in the corner of a housetop, than in a wide house with a brawling woman. |
