This the extent of my hut knowledge1.You will not get an advanced tribe from a hut unless it is on grass or plains. 2.You will not get a wandering nomad if you allready have a non settler 3.You will not get technology after Invention has been discovered(not supposed to anyway) 4.Goody hut Barb unit types change with the following technologies: Chivalry Poly. Mono. Iron. Gunpowder Leadership Metallurgy Conscript. Guerrilla Warfare Navigation-changes boat type Magnet.-changes boat type Tactics-changes sea-based barbs Mobile Warfare-no more barbs 5.You will not get a boat of any kind from a hut 6.The max. gold is 200.Minimum 25 7.Philosophy can be found. You do get extra tech.Next turn though 8.Advanced tribes get bigger and can include improvements. Not sure on this one as to which techs cause it. What else?

not beyond a reasonable doubt. In a recent OCC "fortnight"game you started with 1 settler. The logs were consistant.Almost all discovered nomads. But since it was a 1 square island there was no use for them so you sent them back for disbanding.Anyway, once players had 1,no more were found. After being disbanded, they were found again.Repeat process. Not conclusive but strong evidence. |

It is indeed possible to get a non Settler from a hut when you already have one. I can verify this because it just happened to me.I was building a scenario, and using a land unit with a lot of moves to explore. I went into every hut, and eventually ended up getting two non Settlers. Note that this was with FW. Also, it may make a difference that this was all during one turn. ------------------ ---- Dusty |

yes it seems to me that i as well have received more than one none settler at a time..... although its not like finding four or five advanced tribes along a large riverbed in a row , however it has happened , but i think one needs to be on a larger map with many huts otherwise its usually alot of techs and gold However, your knowledge is extremely good nonetheless.i would also add, that once you get multiple barbs from a hut, you can expect to receive mulltiple barbs almost everytime you release barbs from new huts means you really need to double up with a dip when exploring those distant huts |

When you create a city and there is an unopened hut in the city radius, if a worker is assigned to the square the hut is on, it will disappear. And number 2 is incorrect, as everybody is pointing out. Plus (and tell me if I'm wrong on this one) in Civ II, you could never get a wandering tribe from a grasslands or plains square... but you can in the MP edition. |

I have found this to be a true statement as far as OCC games go (but have received an extra settler in regular games). I expect you cannot get more NONE settlers from huts than you have cities.

TomD-that could very well be it.You may have the answer there. Ming- I'm gonna have to pay closer attention.Unfortunately, nomads are as common to me as winning a lottery.I don't neccessarily beleive the cheat menu gives the same "random" result as in actual play.

1. You will not get an advanced tribe from a hut unless it is on grass or plains. Generally I would agree with this point except that I have gotten two advanced tribes in swamp squares. 2.You will not get a wandering nomad if you allready have a non settler. That's an imaginitive guess. Unfortunately I have gotten two none nomad units at the same time. 3.You will not get technology after Invention has been discovered. This is true, I used it all the time in my reseach on the Barbarian Paper and it never failed. 4.Goody hut Barb unit types change with the following technologies: Iron Working, Polytheism, Monotheism, Chivalry, Gunpowder, Leadership, Conscription, Metallurgy, and Guerrilla Warfare all effect Goody huts. No other techs effect huts including Moblie Warfare. 5.You will not get a boat of any kind from a hut. I see potential for an April first scenario with this one. 6.The max. gold is 200. Minimum 25 Yep. 7.Philosophy can be found. You do get extra tech. Next turn though. Yep. 8. Advanced tribes get bigger and can include improvements. Not sure on this one as to which techs cause it. Humm ... good question. |

Well, since advanced tribes always use a name appropriate to the specific civ, it sounds like there is a line in the software like:civcitycount=0, goto civcitylist, palace=1 Is the advanced tribe/capital named the usual capital name for the civ? Couple of games back, when I was playing even more ineffectively than now, I had my first settler irrigating a place next to my chosen city site, when a Warrior knmocked over a hut and found an advanced tribe. The only building they had, though, was the Palace. In other games, I've found advanced tribes, about mid-game, that had no buildings at all. In my present game, Ijust recently found an advanced tribe, on an island, that had, as I recall, a Barracks and a Marketplace. And in the same game, a few turns before, found an advanced tribe that seemed to have nothing but the clothes they stood up in. Jim W |

i have never received a city from a hut until after 1500 bc........ and always close to a rival to boot when this happens and for me , every time NOOOOOOOOOO palace either I wonder if when we all play this is standard or a glitch in our individual games. I have received mobile warfare , nuc fission , recycling, and mass pro from huts.... although none of these in over a year now i think, if i remember correctly. there was a thread awhile back discussing these techs..... |

Sorry, but i've seen it happen with one, and it's repeatable, to boot. Funny thing, it came from grassland with water on two sides, so you would expect a city. |

In that case i suppose it has something to do with current year. Perhaps you can't get one before 3500 or so? I remember i build 2 cities, find a hut on rough terrain and reload about 100+ (yes 100+) times to get wandering nomads before i gave up. |

its my belief in the early game that you need more cities than none settlers on the board to receive one.I have found that if i settle both settlers quickly that i receive advanced tribes or nomads much more frequently than if i have one city and my other origional none settler roaming the area looking for huts which is suicidal anyways |

I like the theory. Now, somebody prove it.I've done some experimenting, and never considered your above approach. I've tried resetting a million times on non grass/plains and not been able to get a wandering tribe. Yet on the next turn, I was getting a wandering tribe from a different hut about 25% of the time. I have no clue what the difference in the situations was... You raise an interesting theory. Anybody want to test it |

I've experimented with this a little - not sure of the tech - might be computers. As for the huts, I've managed random sizes from 1-4, with any combo of barracks, grainery, marketplace and library. I've heard rumors of being able to get size 8 cities (which would logically be the max possible size, due to the settler/aquaduct constraint), but i've never been able to surpass size 4.

I noticed a pattern today while playing hotseat(crazy stuff that). It seemed you can only get 1 nomad per continent/landmass.My mate was exploring and settling all over the large real world map.EVERYTIME he landed on a new mass he would get a nomad in the first 2 or 3 huts. Then no more.He uses it to build a city and "poof" he would get another on that land mass.Happened at least 6 times. Course hotseat is odd. |

Opening huts before building a capital always seems sensible. No risk of barbs, and those NON chariots/archers are wonderful. The downside is the useless scroll of wisdom - not on the path to Monarchy. I have only recently realised that a scroll of wisdom before founding your capital slows down research. Alas, there is no such thing as a NON advance before the first city is in place.-------------- SG (2) |

Don't know why it took so long to catch this. There was one time when I was in the process of building my first city when I knocked over a hut, and there was yer friendly local advanced tribe, complete with palace. I kept that captial, because it was a better place than the one I was starting. I don't know whether or not that counts as "before founding of the first city." Jim W |

Not exactly. I think you cannot discover any new tech with the huts after you've reached the critical number of 24. Check it, I am quite sure this is the rule. So you can discover anything, as long as you don't pass over 24. That has not been my experience.Invention does it for me.One of the fortnight occs(Mongols War-only-sometimes) I had more than 24 techs and still got tech from hut.Conversly I beleive at least 1 player got invention before 24 and suffered because of it. Anybody? I've also got barbs from mountains. In fact I have gotten barbs from all terrains. [This message has been edited by Smash (edited September 24, 2000).] |
