I was armed to the teeth with a stealth sub loaded with 4 cruise missiles. The Aussie city was about to become mine. Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom the 4 cruise missiles launched from the sub headed for the downtown town area, on impact....... THE DAMN GAME CRASHES TO DESKTOP !!!! ERROR - NO OBJECT ID XXXX can you believe this..biggest problem, I hadn't saved the game for about three hours.

I was using the new med mod beta 5.0, does anyone know what the problem is?? I dont know wether to even play the game again because it may always go wrong. Can I start a new game and implement the fix at a later date??

I just started a new game, brought up the cheat panel and gave myself a cruise missile so that I could bombard an enemy city. The game crashed again. Here is the exact error message :

Game Obj.cpp Error

No Such ID 268435515

Does anyone know what the problem could be, or how to fix it ?

Take it easy, bro. I addressed your problem as best I could in the 5.0 thread, and sent an email to Locutus to have him address it.
Btw, sorry to hear about your arms. Mine stop at my shoulders.

(Oh, that was bad.)

Hi Ganja, Sorry to hear of all the trouble you are having with the cruise missle thing. What is causing the problem is the slic code that was added to destroy cruise missles after it has attacked once. I'm pretty sure wes will address this problem but for now you could just comment out that part of the code so you won't run into that problem until the fix comes along. It should be in script.slc I do believe. Not to sure.

It's very strange that you have this error. I just tried it myself and my cruise missile got killed like it was supposed to without any crashes.

Paul have you tried multiple attacks with the cruise missle or just one cruise missle attack. The problem may be that it's not killing the missles fast enough. Just a guess.

Thanks for the replies brothers with arms.

Can I start a new game and when I know what the fix is implement this into my new game?

And, how do you edit the slic file without having to go into dos and renaming the file to .txt ??

Gemini may have a point there. Did your problem occur on the first cruise missile attack or only when you had multiple missiles attack shortly after each other? In the latter case you could easily solve the problem by waiting a second before attacking with the next cruise missile.

Otherwise, any fix to this can't be used in existing games because the slic code is saved with the game. That means that changes in the script will only affect new games that were started after you made the changes.

Yep the game crashed when I used a multiple attack. I have not tried a single attack yet, guess thats what I'll have to do for now, until a fix is made.

What txt editor can I use??

You could use wordpad or notepad. Something like that.

Any text editor you want except Notepad because script.slc is too big for Notepad. I use Notepad++, a freeware text editor that replaces Notepad and can handle larger files and has some other little things that Notepad doesn't have. But you can also use Windows' Wordpad to edit script.slc. Just make sure that you save it as plain text.

Do you wanna send me your script slc file. I think it should be in your scenario\default\gamedata folder.

Here's my e-mail address.

darrylm@cable-lynx.net

I'm at work right now so I can't promise you any miracles. But I'll take a look.

Sorry for replying so late, the combination of EURO2000, FlatMaps, my study and a busy personal live

As for your problem, Gemini was probably right (as usual). My theory is that the game tries to access either too many objects at a time or the same object (or a part of it) several times at once. What exactly happens is something only Mr Ogre (or some other Actigrammer) can tell us, but it isn't all that important.
I already experienced this problem when trying to attack with the missile and kill it at the same time and I solved it by making in a delay between the attacking and the building. I don't know if there's a real solution for it except for waiting a moment before attacking again, I'll have a look as fast as I can. The problem is either with attacking too many missiles at once or accessing the timer several times at once (I think the first probably can't be solved, the second hopefully can).
If you want to disable the code, you'll have to go into script.slc (I assume this is where Wes put the trigger, I haven't had the time to look at the latest beta) and search for the triggers called 'MissileBugFix' and 'MissileBugFixTimer' (should be underneath each other) and outcomment those by putting '//' in front of every line of those triggers (a triggers starts with the line that contains the word trigger and the title and ends with the last '}' before the next trigger or messagebox or whatever follows the trigger - usually the contents of the trigger is preceded with a few spaces/tabs).

Gemini, Locutus and anyone else,

The game crashes everytime I use a cruise missile to attack, be it in a stack of several cruise missiles or individually. I tried using just one cruise missile to attack the city and the game crashed with the error as above.

Thanks for all the responses though, its good to know people are listening and helping

Jezus, you guys are fast! When I started writing my post this thread had like 9 replies, now it has 19
(who knows how many there are when I'm done with this post)

I don't know how it could possible crash with only one missile, I thoroughly tested that. Are you sure nothing else is going on in the game apart from the missile attack, how about waiting at least ten seconds before doing anything else (the waiting time shouldn't be more then a second but you never know with SLIC )? I'll have a look a soon as I can, but I don't know when that is.

The first time it crashed was when I was playing a full game, that is when I launched a locked group of 4 missiles. I have since started a new game and gone into cheat mode and fired a single and locked group of missiles but unfortunately still the same problem. Could it happen if no enemy units are in the city??

Well, no matter how this turns out, at least this thread is good for everyone's post-count (If we'd post so frequent all the time we'd all be deities by now)

Ganja, I don't have time to download the entire MedPack, could you email me the script.slc file from it so I can have a look at it? Maybe something went wrong with it (though that seems unlikely). Also, try the ten second delay as I said and reboot your computer before that. Start a new game as well (I guess you already did). I presume you have the v1.2 patch and the 1.21 hack? I'm only guessing as well, you really have me at a loss here.

Should really matter I don't think if any units are in the city, did you try putting some units in the city to see if it works. I'm going to check something be right back.

Gemini,

Thanks for the script, unfortunately the game still crashes when I use a cruise missile.

How come one script file was 145kb the other 147kb ? ( I used the smaller file )

Locutus, I'll send you the script file ok.

I don't know about attacking empty cities (does that work at all, with any air-units? I don't think so, but I hardly ever play in the (post-)modern age).
Maybe try attacking a single target (not a stack) with a single missile (and nothing else on the map except for the usual settlers at the beginning of a game). If that doesn't work, something is definately wrong with your specific situation and it can't be something I did wrong in designing the code, since that situation has occured often during testing by myself and others.

Sorry about that Ganja, The file I wanted you to use should be the smaller one. One my machine it says its 141 kb. The reason for the mixup was that I worked on the med mod file about a month ago and had left it on this machine and I got them confused with the script you sent me.

Don't use that file cos then your militia's won't upgrade. But the reason it works is cos the code is not in it for the cruise missle thingy.

What will this actually mean whilst playing the game? do cruise missiles not exist ?

Sorry Ganja,

I received your file, but I can't discover anything wrong with it (not that I really expected that). I was planning to download the newest version of the MedPack sometime soon anyway, I'll have a good look at this as soon as I do, but I simply don't have the time now. I'm afraid I can't help you any further (maybe Don has an idea, he knows a lot about SLIC as well).

Just missed your last post, cruise missiles will work then, but there will be another bug (less serious): it will be possible to attack with them more then once under cetain circumstances (I think when you attack from a square that also contains a city/carrier/sub/cruiser but I could be wrong about one or forget one since I play so little in the later game-periods).

I've had an idea that may be completely wrong but is it a case that it only fails when using bombard, or only fails when using attack, due to the different natures of these two attacks.

The cruise missile only uses the bombard. It has a regular attack value of zero, so it can't even attack. So that can't be the problem.
