I don't like the idea of stacking ships. although stacking ground units is a very good idea.

Because a fleet is very expensive to build, we most likely won't have hundred of ships. this made handling ships much easier than ground units. Therefore there is no need to stack them up.

Take away the stacking ability of ships will also give the AI a better chance of winning a naval battle, because they don't do a good job at stacking ships.

I would like to see a great fleet made up of Carriers, Battleship, Missle Cruisers, and Destoryers, and Subs on the water. not just a stack of nine powerful ships which appears like a little boat.

The whole idea of stacking ships it to combine the different strenghts of different kind of ship to make the whole more than the sum of its elements. Not allowing stacking would undermine this whole principle and make combat a lot less realistic. It may look less nice, it makes the game a lot better and I'm willing to pay that price for a better game. (But since the AI hardly ever stacks naval units anyway you could tell yourself to never stack them and you would still have things your way )
