I built a airfield in my game, but it didn't
do anything. Yes, it can refuel my
air planes, but what's more? I can do just
about the same in any of my cities? Therefore, this improvement is useless.

It seems to me highly unrealistic that a
city without any airfield could refuel
air planes. So, I think it would be better
if we make Airfield Tile Improvement or
Airport City Improvement a requirement for a city to produce air planes.
And A city could only refuel airplane with a airport.

Hi Dida!

If you want to have the maximum number of units in your cities, you need the airfield. Because any airplane reduces the number of possible units by one. And if you have already nine units in a particular city, you can't refuel your airplane there.

The airfield is nice if you disband a city because you still "own" that land, and can still put an airfield on it. At the edge of your country for instance. Thats about all I've seen use for it.

I maybe wrong but I think you are on about the airport city improvement not the airfield tile improvement.

The city improvement doubles gold and increases pollution

The tile improvement allowsd you to land planes in that tile.

hi, I was talking about the Airfield Tile improvement, not city improvement. So far, i don't see any use of it. Who would get so much air planes that their cities runs out of room? (just think about the production needed to make them and the support cost).
we have to make it more useful.

my idea is to take away the ability of a city without "airport city improvement" to refuel or produce airplane.

Dida,

If you're at war with someone you sometimes only have a small frontline to fight along and you concentrate most of your troops in a small area. In that case you may not have enough cities to hold all your units. In that case airfields can come in handy, since founding a city is more than you want (it needs food and production to maintain itself and in sometimes those resources are rare or it would only deny other cities these things).

About your suggestion of making a airport city improvement necessary to make airplanes as in civ2, that sounds very nice, but I don't think it can be done. I'll have a look at it sometime though...
