Hi!

I have a question concerning my ships of the line: They are next to a Enemy city but they can't bombard it. When I try to bombard there shows a red circle up. Do you know why this is so?

Thanks in advance,
Dani

Some units can't move and bombard in one turn, try waiting for your next turn. Also, if you're just trying to invade the city with ships and there's no units in that city it won't be able to do anything (ships can't take a city, they can just fight whoever is inside)

Hi ghen!
I waited some turns. But it won't shoot. It tells me (with the red circle) that it cannot shoot, but not why.
I do not know about units that make you can't be attacked...

A few hours after reading this, I had the same thing happen with a Battleship. It hadn't moved from its previous turn. It was able to bombard before, but not now. And it can move next to other cities or units and bombard them...just one city in particular.

Weird.

I think that ships don't (or can't) bombard some non-military units. I think that a city with just a lawyer (or is it diplomat? Spy? An empty City?) in it won't get bombarded. I sometimes move my military units out of my coastal cities when I see SotL or battleships approaching. It seems to confuse the AI for some reason - I have yet to see the AI bombard any of my empty cities. I know that I have also seen the red circle appear because a ship has moved too far to bombard in the same turn.

Guys, this happens when there is no unit in the city to bombard.

Hi!

OK, I figured out: In my special case there was one abolitionist in it, then it is not possible to bombard, but a total empty city can be bombarded. A bit unlogical, isn't it?

The red circle means 'no can do'. You are simply not allowed to bombard (seemingly) empty tiles. Stealth units are unvisible to most bombarding units. The square will appear empty until you find the stealth unit with one of your own stealth units, or you stumble over it.

If you try to bombard a city with only a spy inside, the city appears empty to the battleship, and therefore you are not allowed to bombard. So the red circle means that the city is empty, or that the units inside are invisible to you

BTW! My opinion is that certain governments should be able to bombard anything they like (genocide is soo fun)

Hi bongo!

No, there is a difference, because really empty cities can be bombarded. So the city with the abolitionist does not appear empty to my ship of the line.

to fix this, we have to make the ship
bomb the city but not kill the stealth unit.
because the unit is not visible to the ship.
maybe there will be a 5% chance that the stealth unit might get killed.

So you CAN bombard empty cities, i didn't know that . Interesting(sadistic smile)

Having a small change of killing an invisible unit would have been nice.

Once bombarded an enemy stack of two units with five cannons. One of the units(a cleric) died instantly, while the other just disappeared. A bit puzzled I sent in a spy to check, and there he was, a lawyer, the bastard had been hiding behind the curch. So i killed him as well.

Better killing for the future
