I just made some changes to the AI's Advantages in impossible and hard levels. I don't like him starting off with so many more techs than I have (8 to 3; that's rediculous). It's just a catch up game at the beginning. That annoys me. He still gets most of the starting resources he used to get, but techs and starting units are now the same that I have. I will probably adjust the strings that apply to how it does when it falls behind, but I want to see the effects of this first. I just thought I would share what I did with everyone.

Well in one of the three files I edited, I made a boo boo. The files are Const.txt, Difdb.txt, and map.txt. I can start a game of CTP2, and I can play for a while, but if I save it then I cannot load it (even after restarting the program/computer). Interesting, huh? Well, after I figure out how I pissed it off, I'll let you know what I find.

Here's a new one. From a fresh install, if I add my changes to those three files, it corrupts the installation, forever. If I replace the files with copies of the originals it doesn't fix the problem. I have to uninstall and reinstall. What is the deal here? What have I done? I'll have to go step by step to see what the exact problem is.

Certain changes in the map.txt can make the game crash - I know that from CTP. But replacing the file with the default had always make the game loading again. So it shouldn't be this file, making trouble.

But I have read some other place, that the lines in const.txt and difDB.txt someway are hardcoded in the game - if so, be carefull what and how you make changes in these files.

Some one had posted that the position of the lines is crucial (whatever variable is line 13 must *stay* on line 13, etc.).

Make sure you haven't accidently rearranged the variables. Const.txt is very finicky.

That's all well and good guys, but for one thing all I changed are values and another thing is when I restore the original file the game still conks out.
Thanks anyway, it is good info to have. I still haven't narrowed this down yet, but if anyone else runs into something similar please let me know. I don't like being a freak. I mean outside of my normal life.
