Anyone remember the history log from Civ1? Well FreeCiv has a utility with which you can turn history logs into gifani's.Check it out at: http://civserver.freeciv.org/ At first glance I'm amazed how friendly and docile most FreeCiv games seem be to be played, but perhaps it's due to the fact that most civs seem to start on their own continent/large island. FreeCiv players (on multiplay at least) seem to be a peaceful lot so far as I can see, any other observations? |

FreeCiv doesn't work out of the box on the windows platform, at least not yet, as it originated on unix (FreeCiv will work on most Linux distributions with the graphical interface installed). If you want to run FreeCiv on windows you need to have an X-server installed. An X-server allows programs to be run from one computer 'the client' on another 'the server' which provides the screen and keyboard for 'use', still with me? There are several X-servers available but your easier off (and cheaper) by simply installing Linux as a secondary operating system on your PC. So in short: Does FreeCiv run on win95/98/NT? No, but there are plans for a native windows version. For now you'll need to install an X-server or try out Linux instead. If you insist on windows... I have downloaded this X-server thingie for windows and it still doesn't work! Not all X-servers may have the necessary components (client software etc.) or the right settings. Be sure to check and read the instructions and try to experiment. [This message has been edited by CapTVK (edited December 11, 1999).]

Thanx for the help CapTVK, I already thought I required additional software for this, now I'm sure and I know which software. I'll wait for the win version tough, I already have enough software on my harddisk I once downloaded for one or another game. |
