I spend almost all of my time with Civ2. I did once, however, download the SMAC Mac Demo. I've heard in a lot of places that the graphics for AC were really bad. I didn't think so when I d/led the demo, however. Were the graphics fixed for the mac?If this question is answered someware, then please forgive, but I don't look at SMAC much, as I said. ------------------ adaMada adamada@springmail.com |

I don't know that the graphics were fixed for the Mac. I've played both versions (PC & Mac) and don't remember and striking differences. I've also never thought the graphics were bad in either, but maybe that is just me. Sometimes I've found it hard to tell where I'm moving when navigating on the 3D landscape but I don't blame that on the graphics, just my unfamiliarity with the game.Chris |

There is a way to toggle off the expression of height. I forget the key combo, but it is under the Map menu. Just togle that off and on. (It helps to have it on when you are thinking about some things, but as you say it can make it hard to hit the square sometimes too). Another thing I do is I use the num-pad to tell units where to go, this is easier in terms of selecting the square, but it is still easy to get confused as to which square you are looking at (nothing like missing your attack by one square at the end of a bomber flight!) *flomp* |

The graphics are unchanged for the Mac. They use the same pcx files as in the PC version. Keep in mind that "bad" is a relative term when it comes to appearance. What one person might find to be ugly, another will find to be pleasing and vice versa. Some people have mentioned that they feel the colors to be "washed out". Personally, I think they are fine the way they are, but you can adjust the gamma inside SMAC to alter the color tone. Decreasing the gamma will lessen the "washed out" effect. Brad | |
