Ok, we're all set. I'll kick it off tonight when I get home from work. I'd like to shoot for 1 turn/day. We're pretty spread out from Europe to California so that's probably the best we can do.

Hello all!
I have started the game. Our goal is to try and get one turn in per
day if possible. For those of you who are unfamiliar with how to play
your turn I'll list the steps:Launch SMAC
Click Multiplayer
Click Hotseat/PBeM
Click Load Multiplayer Game
Load the PBeM saved game file
Make sure it is your turn. Sometimes the wrong turn is sent.
Set your password. (Only needs to be done the first time)
Play your turn.
Save and Exit, don't set a password for the next player.
If possible, please compress the saved game file using DropStuff. This
helps out those of us on slower connections.
Email the turn the next person.
Post in this forum. Example:
Turn 2101 --> Baston
This allows us to keep track of the turn. Here's the list: 1. Illiria(Dan), Gaians, kaesmayr@topmail.de
2. Baston, The Hive, mark.hunter@net.ntl.com
3. Rue, Morganites, classica@clear.lakes.com
4. Jon, Peacekeepers, JWight@bigfoot.com

Turn 2101 --> Jon of the PeacekeepersSo I had a technical problem: For some reason, when I loaded the game it thought I had already moved my unit for the turn, when I hadn't. I loaded a couple of times, threw away my preferences and loaded again, and then my unit could move. It wasn't that it had moved automatically and I hadn't noticed it, I had moved it exactly one square the turn before. Anyway, that's the head's-up on why it'll show I had multiple saves. If faced witha similar situation in the future, should I just take the errors and roll with 'em? I wouldn't have a problem with doing it that way. Thoughts? |

Just out of curiosity...Stumpy did you receive turn 2102 from Rue? Maybe Rue accidentally sent 2101 to you instead of 2102. That would explain your technical difficulties. |

From what I've seen mentioned by Rue and Stumpy it's looks like they might actually be playing the 2101 turn over again. That would explain why your units haven't moved...you were actually playing the previous turn over again. Make sure it's the 2102 turn that you're playing.Ash

The turn I received from Ash contained a treaty offer, which means that it wasn't the first turn again. I was offered the treaty dialog box and when I closed it my piece was shown as having been moved although it hadn't been since turn 1. This is the game I saved and sent to Stumpy.To summarize, I believe I did play turn 2. |

Okay, sorry about the radio silence, but I had a fifteen-hour work day today and was utterly unable to get on the net. It sounds like I had the same problem as Rue... I was offered a treaty dialogue, and after closing that box it indicated that my unit had already moved... which it hadn't. So I restarted the game and tried again, it happened again, so I quit out and threw away my preferences (please don't ask me why, I have no idea), and then when I restarted and reloaded the game, after the dialogue box my unit was allowed to move. (Ash, I see what you were driving at: I typed that I had sent turn 2101 above... hell, maybe I did, but I sent the right one now) Then, apparently, I promptly sent off MY turn to Jon. Whoops. This time I'm pretty sure I did it right. So, here we go, getting the ball rolling again: Turn 2102 --> Jon of the Peacekeepers |

If this happens to anyone again, please e-mail me your save-game, your preference file before you trash it, and the prefs file after you've successfully completed the turn and unit moves. I'd like to see if there's anything funny going on. Brad |

I had tried moving it into a space containing fungus, and it simply didn't move. However, since I received no report from the game for its inability to move, I didn't realize the problem until now. |

Turn 2103 --> Jon of the Peacekeepers The fungus thing doesn't explain what happened to me, because my unit had completed it's move the previous turn and should have been ready to go the next turn. So I'm not sure what happened. I hope I'm not fouling up the negotiating things... I'm not quite sure how they work. If you say you accept an offer, what happens next? It's a bit confusing. |

Methinks the cartography peolpe are charging too much. Anyhow, the exploration of this planet should be a process of gentle exploration.
