I've been reading CTP-2 reviews all day, now i'd like to hear some opinionsI'd prefer comparative opinions when possible (CTP-1 vs. CTP-2) 1. How is CTP-2 "out-of-the-box" (compared to CTP-1 "out-of-box")
2. Have there been any "official" patches? 3. Any "un-official" patches? (like the 1.21 hack for CTP-1) 4. How is the game after patching? (if any patches are available) 5. Are there any 'major' mods yet? (like CD's mod for CTP-1) 6. How is the modded CTP-2 game... a. compared to an un-modded CTP-2 game b. compared to CTP-1 with Awesome AIPs or Med Mod4 7. What do you think about the future of CTP-2 mod-making? any opinions will greatly help!
by the way---- i'd like to say thanks to the member named 'diplomat', for his/her great review on CTP-2

1:ive never played ctp1 so i cant compare but i can tell you after waiting for 2 weeks after the US i was dying to get this game. Open the box actual CD case which many games don't have great bit of a small manual but adaquete. Installation amazing first game ive installed that has great installation music. Mouth watering, finished installing start it up straight into medium level game love the main menu easy to use interface more great music.(ok not all the music is great but i don't hate any of them and some are perfect for setting you in that emperor mood ) i start off as the english on world map straight away i notice the map is poor england looks crap all forest so you start off in a useless position with very poor growth.took me all of 30 minutes to have used all the different screens know what they do(basics at least) and of course pissed off the romans i think. started new game ... and so on.(i just realised i was straying widely off the point )2:yes there have been 2 official patches and 3:some AI mods to make them attack you more etc. 4:downloaded medmod2 but there's a slight bug after messing around with the AI files myself ive got them to attack me more with better advanced armies. 5:MedMod2 is out and WW2 scenario is out so yeah. 6:Bug. someones bound to know 7:good easy to mod mostly .txt files or editable in notepad or word anyway so yeah ------------------ " mind over body " |

Now that we know there'll be no more patches, I would find it pretty hard to recommend this game to anyone. If you're feeling adventurous then take a risk.Personally, I feel cheated. ------------------ - MKL ... Wait until you can get it for 9.99. Despite its problems its worth about that much at least after mods.

Thug-Style, I can say honestly...NO.But if you really want it, get it for the cheapest price possible. I'd suggest five bucks at the most. Oh, and be wary of Activision products. They tend to to have little regard for their customers. D4 |

thanks everyone! What was that about no more patches being released?? The game's been out for 2 months and they decided that already?? That pretty much makes up my mind---- sounds like they're preparing to abandon support of the game

Much better. Still needs play-balancing, though the mods coming out will address that (and add a whole lot more). 2. Have there been any "official" patches? 3. Any "un-official" patches? (like the 1.21 hack for CTP-1) Not yet. (I don't want to say any more.) 4. How is the game after patching? (if any patches are available) The patches only addressed multiplayer stuff. 5. Are there any 'major' mods yet? (like CD's mod for CTP-1) Depends on what you mean by Major. Ones are already out that address certain areas. The Med mod II is about set to go beta, and I think it is major by anyone's definition. 6. How is the modded CTP-2 game... a. compared to an un-modded CTP-2 game b. compared to CTP-1 with Awesome AIPs or Med Mod4 Join the Med mod beta-testers. You will happy you did. 7. What do you think about the future of CTP-2 mod-making? This game has almost unlimited potential. There are already guys who have done things that have never been done before in a civ game. I get more excited about this game each week. It's just too bad that Activision has announced that there will be no new official patches. any opinions will greatly help! by the way---- i'd like to say thanks to the member named 'diplomat', for his/her great review on CTP-2

One thing I would like to add. Activision has not pulled all "help" for Ctp2. Some of the programmers are still active here, if you have questions about settings or other specific gameplay questions. There is just no support from the company for making and distributing another patch, unfortunately. Who knows, though, maybe this will change in the future.
If you give up on the game now, I think you will be making a mistake. |

Activision's support concerning "help" for CTP2 is fine and dandy. However, without no more official patches to fix a basically "broken" game, a fat lot of good there is in having an "Activision Help Desk." I ask you, what could possibly be Activisions "help" on the known broken/bugged issues? Answer: "Sorry, that option or event doesn't work" or maybe "Check the Apolyton Site for advice"...Gee, thanks for the helpful advice Activision!

What mistake, WesW? Gee, I believe I've made one in November by buying this game. In short, these guys don't have the juice to improve the AI. From my point of view, this game was badly designed from the beginning. Please, do hear what people are saying: this game is not worth the 40+ dollars Actvision is asking for. Activision Programmers and Cronies, I think you should be ashamed for your shameless plugs. It's not too late to overturn your boss decision for not giving anymore patches so we'll think better of you. If not, please refrain from making any inane comments. |

I have to say no ... some time ago, I actually adviced somebody to get it .. I have to apologise to that person, as I was under the impressions that most bugs would be patched ... I would not pay anymore than £10 ($15US, $20CD) as it is not a complete product. ------------------ "Wherever wood floats, you will find the British" . Napoleon |

Keep in mind that Activision (through legalities) have been forced to drop the name "Civilization". The game is a mockery. Do not buy the game. Stick with Sid Meiers Civ II. Activision have tried to get in on action that is out of their league. The game has bugs. Activision have stated that they don't care. Just stick with Civ II and wait for Civ III. Look at this game as a non event. |

As an alternative to waiting for Civ III which won't be out for another year (?), Europa Universalis is released in the US/UK in about a month. Now there's a company (Paradox Entertainment) who knows about game support! The game has been out for three months in Sweden and Germany only and already seven patches has been made. Sure, the game was buggy from the start, so there was a genuine need for it, but unlike Activision, they responded to the complaints on their forums and not only that; they have also improved the AI a lot in some of the patches in response to suggestions on their forums.
