I've only just started playing after years of CIV2I take it roads only give a movement advantage, no commerce. When placing a road on a tile which already has some other improvement on it, eg a farm the reported new stats for the tile look like the farm is being ignored or downgraded but if I place the road first and then the farm the stats for food are the same as if the road is not there, any ideas or is it just that I shouldn't play this late?

Roads (and Railroads & Maglevs) are just for travel, not gold.I don't think it makes any difference in what order improvements are placed (assuming that one doesn't destroy the other). Are you sure the Farm was completed when you checked the stats? |

I don't know about that, I managed to destroy roads with the farm improvement (the lowest variant) but not with advanced farm, railroads seams to stay put when using tile improvements over them.I have not experienced the opposite that road/rail destroy (or inhibit) tile improvements (yet).
