i bought ctp2 even hearing the ai was weak so i set difficulty to medium and played the romans. understand too that i have installed the game patch. within 5 minutes my city was attacked and destroyed by a american hoplite, i hope this is a sign that this and further patches have improved the ai.

I suggest you defend yourself better, and perhaps play on a lower difficulty level. No offense but the AI is indeed extremely weak. Once you get the hang of the game you will easily see that. The patch basically did nothing to help the situation.
