I dont know if this is already known but there is an option in userprofile.txt called "AutoRenameCities" (quite at the bottom). If you set it to "Yes" (without quotes) then you get the chance to rename a city upon finding (like in CtP1 with 1.2).

I also noticed there is an option called "CTP2Mode=Yes".

is there a way to rename allready existing cities?

Yes, right click on the city, and select rename !
