All incarnations of the game. Just tell us your favorite unit and why.I'll start(duuh) Civ 1 Legion.. 3/1/1 That guy just says "civilization" to me. or maybe because its the first real combat unit.. those cavalry can go.. anyway.. oh.. and they look so cute... and any sort of skimship/cruiser probe team. Nothing like spreading some dissent on the high seas, great for establishing a beachhead too. |

It's got to be the Chariot from Civ I. First unit that had a decent attack and could move two spaces. |

Oh come on, what could possibly be better than howitzers? In early game though, I prefer pikemen -that's because in early times I don't wage big wars. |

I'd have to say that CTP1's Space Bombers were my favorite unit. True, they appeared kind of late in the game, but once you got them you were virtually unbeatable.------------------ The Electronic Hobbit |

Eternal: You are right on the money, the Howitzer, over all. Ignore those city walls! For the early game, however, Elephants can bring a quick end to a ancient war. |

What about the spy? How could you possibly forget her? Who here would argue that an army of spies landing on your shores is far more frightening than a brigade of war walkers landing on your territory? Have you forget how you chortled when she poisoned those cocky Russians' water supplies or when she shocked the globe when she planted a nuke in the German capital and blew it halfway to hell (wipes a nostalgic tear away). The spy is by far the greatest unit ever! |

Slavers all along... If you use those properly and your opponents don't, you can't loose anymore |

I suppose my first favorite unit would be the Ship of the Line from CTPI. coupled with the East India Trade wonder it could prove to be most useful when waging a war in early years.Later on I suppose I liked lawyers and Coporate branches (As I normally would have the world in a vice-grip of peace) A good way to keep everyone down while you sail on to the end of the game. The musketeer!!! + The cannon!!! A good balanced attack/defense unit probably the first good balanced attack/defense unit. The cannon is a great supporter. In CtP1 I liked it when I could run around with stacks of 5 musketeers (to cover the front row) and 4 cannons. That pretty much rocked!Ata |

Corporate Branches ('Who needs minimum wage')Great movement, good to use to see where troops are at. Practically unstoppable (at least against the AI) and of course, the humble Slaver. |

I loved the muskateer in civ2. I could bust my way up the tech tree to it and be a superpower 2h vs 1h... no contest. |

Ship-of-the-Line from CtP1 (haven't played CtP2 yet!).Having a combat-capable transport with the ability to bombard is just so incredibly useful that, unlike other units when they become obsolete, I never disband and recycle my SOTLs. |

Another vote for Howitzers - especially against a Civ that has railroads, they were pretty much unbeatable.I do have a fond spot in my heart for Skimship Probe Teams in SMAC, though... |

For ancient times the Legionnaire in Civ I though the chariots were fast and sneaky! Power Power and Power! versus sneaky Pete! For medieval times the Ship of the Line in CTP I. Blast them all! For modern era the Stealth bombers of Civ II. I see you, you can't see me - BOOM! ------------------
