I mean, is there any seed at which there are locations that contain more than 'only' 4 special resource goodies? For example at the city location and 1 in each corner ? |

I'll make a large wager that this is impossible anywhere except at the 'date-line' ... and even there much experimentation has only ever produced 4 in odd patterns -- this however, proves nothing...------------------ ____________ Scouse Git[1] "CARTAGO DELENDA EST" - Cato the Censor "The Great Library must be built!" Proving the point. Even with that setup, you can't build a city that gets 5 special squares. QED, it's impossible. |

Impossible... discounting a flaw or error while the map is being generated... Yep! Considering that if you are sitting on a special, no other special can be reached... even if you were on the zero axis, there is no way you could reach four special from the other side of the axis. |

I have seen discussion as to whether the fabled 5 special site is possible on this and other sites. Never sen anyone report one actually to have arisen, though.Looking at SilverDragon's pattern I thought, for a moment, that there was a likely looking spot for a hidden special (producing another side by side pair). But even then you can't place a city to have more than 4. Maybe, even at the meridian, the shape boundaried by the four regular locations for specials cannot be placed so as to overlap with any other such shape (on either side of the meridian) and must be complete. The only quirk at the meridian would then be that two shapes can abut in ways that are not possible elsewhere. SilverDragon's case may support that hypothesis. |

With the MGE map editor, I tried a world with the size 49,100 and a resource seed of 1, and got adjacent specials at the merdian, hexes 0,27 and 0,44.The pattern of specials is obvious in the map editor and prevents more than 4 per city, no mattter what resource seed I tried. Since the pattern has a different width and configuration with different resource seeds, varying either the resource seed or the width of your map can cut off part of a pattern at the meridian, which can leave odd effects like gaps or adjacent specials. I don't believe the patterns ever overlap at the meridian, which would be necessity for 5 specials to fit inside a city radius. ------------------ It is more pleasant to live in the corner of a housetop, than in a wide house with a brawling woman. |

The other day, a little late in the game, I came across an island from which I could acess four whales.I built a city there, of course, but as I said it was a bit late in the game to take proper advantage of the site. Ah, well, maybe some time in the future. Jim W |

I believe that the one and only city ever built on more than 4 specials was named Mingapulco | |
