yes 1 no 4I have no use for nukes; I usually go for an AC victory and even if I go for a conquest win howies will do the job just fine. |

Yes: 1 No: 5I haven't seen a nuke unit since my Civ 1 days. And I'd like to keep it that way. To paraphrase Paul, howies and bombers are more than enough to take out the AI. |

Yes: 2 No: 5I'll build Manhattan Project right at the end, unless there's another civilization around that I have security concerns about, just to pick up the extra points for the wonder on my Civilization score. [This message has been edited by RNF (edited December 05, 2000).] |

Yes: 3 No: 5My answer is like RNF's. If I'm preserving an AI city or two as a "reservation" and their tech is no threat, I'll build it for the Wonder and the points. Other than that, I have no use for it. Yes, of COURSE I had to try it out in one game, and that was against a truly threatening enemy. Ya know, that siren was kinda chilling . . . (So, how long until the format gets busted by bad timing?) |

yes you got my strategy exactly. unless the ai builds it, then I just conquer it. I always conquer all cities but 1.yes: 5 no: 5 why would you not build it? it is free points. [This message has been edited by Dissident Aggressor (edited December 05, 2000).] |

The outcome against the ai is moot each time, why not build it as early as possible makes the game more entertaining if i have to deal with a possible nuke threat as well |

yes:6 no:5Yes, I'm building the manhattan project. Sometimes I really get angry with my enemies because they did something really bad to me (for example killing one of my settler units) and then I love it to punish them with a massive nuke-attack

Nukes are fun. I Love Nukes, simply because of the general hell they can wreak.I don't so much like it when the other side builds nukes to. Indeed, I vastly prefer for the other side to have something like, say, Musketeers. Yeah, it's inefficient, but inefficiency can be fun. |

Yes: 8 No: 5 Not for any reason, but there isn't much else to do and I don't want my world polluted which is likely to happen if I build it earlier. quote:

In Civ2 I'll go ahead and speed-build the Manhattan Project ONLY if I already have SDIs in most of my cities. If I don't, no.In (ancient) Civ1, many times I would find myself in a situation where an AI civ had already launched a spaceship. At that point, one must find and take the capital city of the spaceship-empire. Typically, a small, but potent task force composed of; 1 carrier w/bombers & 2 nukes, 4-5 cruisers as outriders, 3-4 battleships, and at least 1 (preferably 3 or 4) transports full of mobile troops. 1 nuke clears a coastal city. Move the transports into the coastal city you nuked. Nuke the capital, then move in w/mobile units. All you have to do is take it once. They may well take it back, but the spaceship is already down. Generally, the whole force is expendable. After it crashes the enemy spaceship, wreak havoc--plunder like there's no tommorow! DESTROY anything you can reach, take cities and sell off everything you can. Leave them open, let the enemy take them back, and then take them again, just to reduce the populations. While all this destruction is ongoing, build and launch your own spaceship. This used to work well w/Civ1. It doesn't work so well in Civ2. Generally, ANY hostile naval movement WILL be smothered by innumerable cruise missles before it can reach any enemy shoreline. And SDI defenses can really put a crimp in this kind of plan. Yes=9 No=10My opinion is above, but I didn't vote. This wonder is not worth the score. However, if the AI builds, I will take it from him. Invariably forces the rush building of SDIs, a city "improvement" without value except if the bad guys have nukes. Hate to waste the shields and gold for that. |

Yes=9 No=11In CIV1 I built it ONLY if the spacerace has gotten out of hand (my hand). In Civ 2 I built it once just to do it. That was the last I've seen of it except when the AI did built it itself onetime. I never thought they'd actually use nukes because I had not used them against them. I was mistaken. AND unprepared. |
