Ottok, you almost got me with your April Fool's ploy, there. My first reaction was "Poor guy, he don't speak English good, like me, let's help him out" I was about to launch into a song and dance multiple-choice thing "If you meant so-and-so, then such and such" "If otherwise, then thusly" "If dis, den dat" and so on, stretching til next April 1. Then I took a look at your profile, O....300+ posts? You're more literate than I! |

Hey ottok.Havn't heard much from you lately.I would say it depends on the map size, your playing style and the scenario objective. I would prefer scenarios that can be won with 1 city or many cities.Conquer or spacerace.I don't like to manage large civs if I don't have to so 5-10 cities suits me fine. |

50 cities - and still a despot! Is this a new challenge? --------- SG (2) |

Scouse, it can be done. amigo. Just for a giggle I played my one and only complete game,so far, as a despot.(chieftain v 7AI civs, raging hordes) It was tuff sledding, but I survived, think I did rather well, for me. Dunno the number of cities, I had but knowing me, it must have been well in excess of 5o - I tend to build at the drop of a plumb. Do not try this at home, unless you're very bored with other modes of Civ. (I can recommend rebuilding the Brit Empire to 1950 on a world map - now, that IS a challenge!) |

My apologies, Scouse...I find that I lied when boasting of an estimated 50+ cities as despot...I just looked up the game - I built just fifteen! (these days I do that with a coupla boatloads of settlers, on a 1 square island) Musta been my English, working to rule, again...I vow to be less benevolent a despot, next time. Too, my score was a mere 300+ - and I thought I'd done so well. I did have 2 cities in the top 5, and finished 1st in a majority of Demographics categories. I marvel that I survived with a navy of but frigates, and an army of which the top rank was musketeer. As I say, 'twas quite a challenge - but who needs artificial challenges? ..for me the challenge I've just embarked on is to play SP games at ever more difficult levels, until I'm winning at Deity level, then look out (Civ2)world!...you'll find me the most formidable 110-year old MP player a-nukin' of your Wales! |

15 cities is more like it! Though that's a pain. Get to Monarchy as soon as you can. --------- SG (2)

OTTOK!!!You are priceless! My secret dream is for you to re-write all of the English language dialog boxes in RULES.TXT. Civ2 would be even more fun! I think there are many of us who enjoy your posts! Part of it is your special "magic" with English, but it's also your confidence, and most of all your humor which no language barrrier can stop! I cannot speak even one word of Finnish, but I am studying Chinese, which made me realize how much more difficult English is. I raise my hat to you, sir! - mindseye aka Tim Smith | |
