In trying to figure what to play in my upcoming Civ rotation, I started up the two mob scenarios: Gangsters and Mafia. Gangsters looked what I would expect - a map covering US with 4-5 cities for each gang, with the usual mob and law units. Now Mafia was a completel shock. It was one large city with many buildings, parks and thoroughfares, with neighborhoods representing the different gangs. I had never seen something like this in Civ, esp. in the clever way that the vehicles can only travel on the pavement squares. But alas, the scenario is in French and even though I can navigate it fairly well, I'm afraid I would be missing important info on some of the dialog boxes. If anyone cares (which I doubt), I haven't decided what to play; a scenario or do a small map or OCC for the first time or something else. It's snowing like the dickens here and I'm bored. |

Also check out Gang Wars! Here is Cam's review from the Scenario League. http://sleague.apolyton.net/Reviews/ch_gngwrs.shtml Cam designed Gangsters, so he has a good idea of what is involved in an Urban scenario. Rock and Roll!

I'm in the same boat as you re. the French language - and I'm surprised the author hasn't done a translated version (could be a bigger job than I think). It might have been nice if credit was given to the 'borrowed' graphics used. Darth Veda's a good scenario designer, and I think Gang Wars is a creditable effort. Given he's done nine updates to GangWars, it'd be fair to say that he's committed to making it a well structured game. There are only a few tweaks 'here and there' IMHO that would improve it further (as per my review). Artwork does take some time to amend. My own Gangster scenario should be a little challenging, although strategically there are a few loopholes that can be exploited if you've played the game a few times. Some nice people had some nice things to say (plug, plug) - sleague.apolyton.net/Reviews/ah_gang.shtml and sleague.apolyton.net/Reviews/pd_gang.shtml There's always room for more 'urban conflict' games such as these. Dracon was contemplating a 2000 Olympics terrorist/gang scenario for Test of Time. Sten, The cheque's in the mail. [This message has been edited by Cam (edited March 31, 2000).] |

Sten, that's why I think you're the best of the best. I had somehow missed the whole sleague site. I knew about the forum, but not those fantastic reviews. Definitely another bookmark.Hope your baby arrives this weekend ready to play Civ. |

What? What? A Scn. that is only for test of time? What? Why not Civ2MPG?------------------ adaMada adamada@springmail.com [This message has been edited by adaMada (edited April 09, 2000).] [This message has been edited by adaMada (edited April 09, 2000).] |

Sounds good - will it come complete with authentic locations and landmarks? |

adaMada,I've not heard how 'Dracon' is progressing with his scenario - essentially he announced his intention and requested some feedback a couple of weeks ago. From that point, nothing more's been said. Why 'Test of Time'? Perhaps two reasons: Firstly, there are hundreds if not thousands of scenarios already written in 'traditional' Civ2, but only a very small number for Test of Time at this stage. 'Test of Time' has been seen by some as the "new frontier" of scenario authoring. Secondly, 'Test of Time' generally has a wider range of features and therefore more scope to make interesting scenarios. While some things are still being worked out (such as turning off the animations has proved to be a bit of a headache apparently until recently), there are quite a few extra goodies to make scenarios even better, such as multiple maps, a greatly enhanced events.txt file capability, not contrained by 256 colour palettes, support for 'avi' files (movies!) to name but a few. b.t.w. - how did this thread end up in Strategy??? Can it be shifted? |

How about a scenario about cold war without nuclear weapons? Then it could actually BE a war! |

After RedFront, I was trying to get Nemo to do a Stalingrad Urban... but he has got to be exhausted. I am very very slowly working on an urban corporate takeover scenario. At my present pace it should be available before 2039. |
