In terms of counting, at least in the OCC stakes, why bother? I mean Jese, its like an old Soviet election where the communist gets 99.7% of the vote or somethuing ridicuous. I still gotta go with Bird on this one. Got know I love getting Shake's and would probaby; quit the game if I didnt get it, but without KRC you just aint going to get the rest.

PH - I think you are the only one I know of that builds KRC at all in OCC. Are you kidding, or do you really build it?

By the time I go for Engineering I usually only have Darwin's and Apollo to go, which I build with caravans... ??

Does anyone else build KRC in OCC?

Not I.Industrialization comes along to quickly to justify the time and resources needed to build it IMHO.

I have tended to build KRC on OCC... when I've got my govt sorted to Republic, rush for Engineering and build KRC, then it makes all the science wonders much easier to build. It is fantastic if you start by the coast... the avoid Industrialisation as long as poss, but make sure you have a few caravans stacked up ready to disband to rush-build the factory you'll need as soon as you research industrialisation.

Then again, I should probably try a new method. I play OCC on prince, and my best is AC in 1930s, so I have a lot of learning still to do. That is probably as good an advertisement as you'll get not to build KRC.

I use exactly the same strategy used by mzilikazi. But then again my record (1947 at King) is not amazing. I think that if you go for the record is better not to build KRC.
But it can be necessaryl to win games that would otherwise result in...10000 AIs on AC.

Hey Sten. Yes I do build KRC in OCC games. Honest! Like I say, I certainly grant you that Shakey's is pretty crucial to the later game, but Im really surprised that its as dominant in this thread as it has proved to be - not only in that its staggering that so many agree on one wonder (compare that to the MP and SP) but I still think KRC is pretty important to building the rest of them. I always feel production is so slow without it. I understand the point that most people seem to make about that KRC taking a long time to come and rushing for industrialisation but theres still a long time between them: engineerings like 3 in from the left, industrialisations like 3 in from the right. But, who knows, next time I play Ill try without it

At the time KRC becomes available there are so many other things to build. Also, in the few OCC games where I built KRC it caused so much pollution that I spent more time cleaning up than improving the land.

(E)SP: Magellan's Expedition.
(That's because I love a big navy.)
OR
SP: Leonardo's Workshop
(Where there's a lot of terrain.)
OR
SP: The Pyramids
(If I'm planning on an early conquest.)
OR
SP: Hoover Dam
(If i'm planning to win the space race.)
OR
SP: The United Nations
(If I'm feeling like a destructive democrat.)
OR
SP: The Statue of Liberty)
(If I feel like having a dirty war and buy cities by switching to Fundamentalism.)

Anyway, I vote for them all.

Sorry, not all, WHO CARES FOR THE CURE FOR CANCER?

Don't be silly. Though the best may vary from situation to situation, Unless you are trying the OCC challenge or something similar, 80% of the time it's

Mike's, hands down.

Only possible rivals are JSB and HG.

Back to Peter Hennesey's concern with shield production levels absent KRC. Post-Colossus all the wonders I build I do with Caravans, and for caravans you really only need about 10 shields per turn and some cash. I do the ol' -> turn 1) 10 shields produced, buy it up to 40 shields. turn 2) 10 more shield produced = caravan = 50 shields for a wonder.

As long as you have the military units and government for tribute or the reputation for alliance gifts, you can get the money to replace shields.

Why so many posts, in an internet setting, by people who have never played multiplayer? First, why never? Second, how can you voice an informed opinion?

Ok, it's October, but I'm gonna vote anyway.
MP-King Richards Crusade-it gives a big boost to build over wonders quickly
SP-Pyramids (easier to expand quickly)
OCC-Shakespeares Theatre (with only one city thats never unhappy can there be any other choice?).

MP: Never played.
OCC: Haven't tried yet.
SP: Surely it has to be Hanging Gardens because it lets you get going in the very beginning. Otherwise, you'd be stuck making extra units for martial law rather than stuff that takes you somewhere. At Deity level anyway.

SP: Great Library, UN
Mike's at Emperor and Deity
MP: Havent played yet

Leo's is also a great wonder, but if miliaristic, units are no more vets. If youre playing a militaristic strategy, combination Sun Tzu's and Great Wall makes you invincible.
