BRING BACK NEWS REPORTSCiv I's original news reports added to the immersiveness of the game, as well as kept you up to date on important events. I propose in Civ 3 the news reports be in the form of an optional News Ticker (you can turn it off and on during the game); also key events should be hyperlinked to the appropriate "hot spot" on the map; every five turns or so helpful or interesting information is reloaded, constantly scrolling in the ticker window.

yes.Actually, for Civ3 all I want is some very simple things. I don't want governers or any of that crap. I LIKE micromanagement and thats why the civs were such a great game! |

raingoon:first can you define what the problem is? is it a significant problem? how does your ideas fix that problem specifically? does your fix effect any other areas of the game? if it does effect another area does it upset game balance in those other areas? is there a simpler way to fix the problem? does your idea hurt gameplay? why out of all of the ideas does your fix belong on this list? i like the idea of hyperlinking it to hotspots, i think if implemented properly, a news ticker could help a ton with empire management |

Like the ticker in SimCity 3000. With hyperlinking the stuff the windows did in Civ 2. But I still might want some windows to tell me about new units, city improvements, etc. built and so I don't miss them. And you can't hyperlink some stuff like Americans and Russians declare war where would it take you? But they could still run on the ticker. |

FINAL DRAFT quote:
BRING BACK NEWS REPORTSCiv I's original news reports added to the immersiveness of the game, as well as kept you up to date on important events. They also gave the player a built-in pause in the game to reflect on the bigger picture. The absence of any such news report in Civ 2 is itself a problem, and I propose in Civ 3 the news reports be brought back, in an updated form -- such as an optional News Ticker (it could run constantly or be turned off and on during the game). Key events should be hyperlinked to the appropriate response screen or place on the map, demographic information could be included, and the all the information could be refreshed on a continuous basis.
