Audevourahnif asked why out of the five things to put on the new ideas thread why would this idea belong? what are the greatest strength in adding this idea? and what if any weaknesses or exploits does this idea have? could you please explain your idea a little more? |

That's one of the VERY few things i liked in CTP. Possible projects: space elevator(i know its been used) GPS Apollo Program(of corse) Manned Mars Mission -Terraforming Mars(should take AT LEAST 100yrs, mabye 500) Any other space projects? |

and hopefully the game will be balanced enough and the AI good enough that by the time space cities (and warfare - don't forget the warfare ) comes around, we can still have a good tussle. by the time you had space in ctp, the game was over, and your enemies crushed.i was really looking forward to some good space stuff, but it never really eventuated. could be a whole lot of fun if it's done right though. ...mmmm...i must say i liked those space bombers... |

The greatest strength in adding space stuff is that some of us don't want the game to end at a set number of turns or game date, nor require some arbitrary goal like AC or conquest to define victory. For that matter, some of us have considered the idea of building a colony ship to AC as ludicrous without achieving numerous lesser space-related and tech-related goals first: power, propulsion methods, cryogenics, etc. |

I modified this from a post I made many moons ago (har har) I've always thought the space race in Civ/Civ2 dumb. "Let's jump straight from current (laughable) space technology to near-light-speed interstellar transport!" Let's have a real space race. - getting to orbit
- building satellites
- exploring the moon/better satellites
- remote planetary exploration/exploitation of lunar resources
- gradual development of interplanetary transport tech
- orbital industry of scale worth including in game
- manned exploration of inner planets (or equivalent)
- orbital/lunar colonization of scale worth including in game
- heavy orbital/lunar industry
- colonization of inner planets/asteroids (or equivalent)
- manned exploration of outer system (or equivalent)
Well, I could go on. The point is to add to the things we can do, not just expand the timeline and toss in a couple of "space" units. The possibilities are vast, though perhaps the map teleportation method of ToT isn't the best solution for movement between maps of planets. |
