Well, with our deadline a week away, these are the only threads accounted for:CHEATS COMBAT RELIGION TRADE UNITS GRAPHICS SOCIAL ENGINEERING SPACE EXPLOITATION DIPLOMACY (...if I missed somebody--again--please let me know...) Please express below your interest in summarizing one or more of the other threads. Of course, you should first look through that thread for any sign of the TM. Shoot off a quick e-mail, but then start your summary if you can't find the TM around anywhere. Start by looking at version 1 of the list to see what the format of the summary should look like. Here's a sample. Also, it is VITAL that you don't cut out ideas you don't like. That's not a summary if you do that, and people will rightly scream later on if their ideas get cut. Anyway, as a first step, please express your interest below, indicating what thread you'd like to tackle. I will NOT be assigning you a thread, since you should find something interesting to you or it will be a nightmare putting in all the time it takes to do a good summary. Once the summary is done, please send it to me for a quick look. ALSO post it for everyone else to see. The Civ 3 "About the List" forum is reserved for that purpose. That way we can all see what's going on and give our collective O.K. Some of you guys have already said you are willing to help...God bless you! Sign up and save the day. Save Civ3!!! YinFirst, I am very sorry for not responding sooner to your call. (My current work leaves me almost no own time.) Harel sent me yesterday a very polite and good Email about DIPLOMACY-summary. (Or in fact about the missing summary ) Harel also have volunteered to do the summary. The list is important, please let Harel do the DIPLOMACY-summary. (I do not have time) Jeje
P.S. Yin THX, it was fun to be part of this project for a while. [This message has been edited by Jeje2 (edited September 23, 1999).] |

I forgot to mention, please, if you have completed a summary, post it in the thread AND in the "Summaries of/about..." so people can see what you have and if they wish to argue about how their idea was presented. [This message has been edited by Theben (edited October 01, 1999).] |

PLEASE look at the summary and jump on the needed threads. If people note their interest in doing a summary, I'll hold off on sending the list. Considering this might well be our last list, the more summaries the bettter. Thanks again, Theben... |

GAAAK!Well, I just got a new machine, and when I went to recover all the files from my old machine, I discovered that the CD I backed everything up on is a coaster! That includes the work I had done on the SE/G summary. That's the least of my problems, though, since it also contained about 3 weeks of code and other files that I need to resurrect by, oh, Wednesday. So, I'm not going to be able to do the summary any time in the near future. Sorry folks . . . I really am, but there's this whole job/employment thing that I have to take care of first . . . I know, I know, where's my priorities. But anyways, somebody else is going to have to do it . . . Sorry... |

Oh dear... First off, my apologies for Smilo. He asked me to do the summary and I, foolishly, said: "Sure! I would LOVE too! It's only the third thread I am making!" Sigh... Lot's of happened. My comp is crushing back and forth. I need to format it, but I am getting a new comp this week so I don't bother. Last week my CO was replaced, and you can imagine how much nonsense I had to deal with... And now for Bell comment. This really depress me, because I think the SE thread got the most attention in the last few months, and it's probaly the most improved-upon thread since the first list. We all the model suggested ( five complete one, I think... me, maniac, theben... the joker... and someone else too ). That's a huge job, and no one would dare come close to it. No, don't look at me. I summarize fast, but not THAT fast. The SE thread would mean taking another week off, and I am not going to spend my next leave like this.Maniac, I invite you to take the towel. Instead of critizing Bell ( who deserve a lot of credit just for trying to do that summary: think, it's 250 HUGE posts, try to do it yourself. You know what's going there just as well as me... |

Technocrat is the fifth. And Bell had said a few times, I think, that he had some problems with his job, so of course I had my doubts about if the summary would get completed. Certainly because he already begun around 25 september. And actually, two weeks ago, I was thinking about doing the SE summary, but then Bell said again he would do it. Now it's a little late to start it. I won't even have time to summarize my own contributions. Or at least not before List v2.0. |

Well, my job is going to demand a few overnighters from me next week, which means I won't be able to send the list until the end of October. THAT, however, will be the deadline no matter what, so if that gives you enough time, we'd all be very thankful. |

I would love to be the one to summarize it, but I don't have the time (college apps, major research projects, etc.), and anyway, over at the Firaxis boards, three of us (CormacMacArt, the Joker, and myself) have posted highly developed "version 2" SE proposals that would resist summarizing due to the integrated nature of our respective ideas. I think that ideally, Firaxis would take the time to examine each SE proposal individually & without a summation in order to really understand some of our more advanced ideas, as well as some of our problems (city-states spring to mind). I'm sure I don't speak for only myself when I say that it would really be best for Firaxis to look at the SE posts themselves rather than a simplified summary, but for some reason I doubt that that would happen... Well, I have downloaded all the threads unaccounted for, not including SPACE EXPLOITATION and TECHNOLOGY, and only my part of SE/GOVT as well as the last bits of PLAYER INTERFACE, which I'm betting I can scatter among other List threads. I also have separated the pre-ver. 1.2 posts of COMBAT and plan to give them my attention. That said, ANYONE who feels that they can summarize one or more of these threads, I'll e-mail my .doc to you. I highly doubt I can do them all myself, but if no one steps forward I'll try. 2 things though: One, whoever does a summary will put their bias in it, even if unintentional. That means if I do them it's MY bias going into the thread; even though I don't plan to I'm sure it'll happen. Two, BR and Firaxis aren't going to wait for us. The sooner it gets done the better for everyone. You can complain...or you can DO SOMETHING. Nuff said. |

As for the SE/GOVT thread, my proposal is this: everyone summarize all their ideas only. Then someone can just send them all to BR as a collection of SE summaries, with the comment of "we had several different proposals for SE ideas" or some such. |

Why not just simply send the SE proposals themselves as, in light of the fact that there are only (maybe, about) seven or so, they really aren't all that long (except maybe mine ). The proposals at Firaxis are rather self-contained and can be taken outside the context of the "conversation," and I'm sure the ones here are as well. When given just the final product (i.e., the different proposals) and not the ambient noise (i.e., the debates, discussions, etc.), I'm sure that Firaxis could digest the SE ideas. Am I totally off base here?Technocrat |
