What I mean by a "major update" is, over time the clash web site has become very cluttered. I have updated allot of HTML, move some images around, added a link to the forum within the clash frame, and I hope to change some of the layouts. Hopefully you understand. Hi Dom:Sava, a new artist with the project, found a deadlink on the Demo Graphics # 1 page on the web site. There are two links that point to "Graphics Thread" that point to the old thread that died and is now on the web site. The new thread location is: http://clash.apolyton.net/misc/GraphicsThread.shtml If you could switch over the links I'd appreciate it. Thanks, Mark |

Thanks Dom!Yeah lets hear requests from everyone on the web page. Especially new team members. I have one suggestion: You tried before to get decent search capability hooked up, and it wasn't practical. Can you take another look at that, and see if there isn't something better available now. Because that would be Really useful. I also have a poll I would like to do on demo distribution.
Which of the following methods would you use to playtest Clash demos? (Vote for all that apply) Run via web (~60 seconds to launch, no save files) Run via browser on your computer (fast launch, no saves) Stand-alone application (fast launch, saves enabled) Stand-alone with new Java features (about 5 MB download required) When you get the poll done, if you could also start a thread with a link to the poll so that people could comment further in the thread, it would be really useful... Thanks! Mark P.S. if any of the coders have ideas for further questions to add to this poll, please comment ASAP. |

Hi Dom, I've got one more request...The suggestions page needs to be updated, with the following changes: 1. Replace "approaching 3000" with "more than 6000" 2. After the paragraph that ends with "... to find whether we've discussed what you're thinking about." Please insert the following blurb: If the "Current Forum Thread" is locked, then it means the web page needs updating! Here is what you should do: Go to the very end of that locked thread, and if we have been doing our job correctly, there is a link to the next one. If you follow that link, then you will know where that thread is, and can post in it. Also, if you could then post the fact that the "current" thread for an area is stale in the "Clash Web Site Discussion/Requests" thread, I'd really appreciate it. Then Dom will know to update the current thread on the web page, and everything will be back to normal. (We are supposed to let him know when we start new threads, but sometimes forget .) |

Just wanted to let you guys know that there may be a change in the Clash Web Site location. It has come to the point that, it's no longer a "do this when you have the time" sort of thing. It's starting to be a full time job! I have no access to the web site via FTP, do to that DSL-FTP issue that we had with Apolyton. I have been sending everything to Mark and having him upload and do the changes, but it's become unbearable to remember what has been updated and what needs to be updated. Besides, I think Mark has much better things to do than be the middle man. Well, what I have done is set up a NBCI account for The Clash Web Site. I have made the updates that were asked and more. I hope you understand where I'm coming from. [This message has been edited by Dominic (edited March 30, 2001).] |

It occurs to me that there is no need to have the UGO ads if the site is no longer being hosted by Apolyton. Can you make "clash.apolyton.net" forward automatically to the new address? |

What I meant by the site might have a new location is, the clash site (at Apolyton) would stay but would redirect the user to the nbci web site. Personally I really don't think that you, as the web viewer, would tell a difference. Even though we would be redirecting you to the NBCI web site, I'm going to keep the UGO adds on the site. For the reason of Apolyton hosting us, we should keep them.Tell me what you think... (if you understand me ) [This message has been edited by Dominic (edited March 30, 2001).] |

Hey Dom, got another request.A bunch of the "current thread" urls are out of date. The govt page is the latest one I've noticed. Sometime when you have a bit of time, can you just check 'em? What I have in mind is just: 1. follow the "current" thread link from a model page 2. go to the last page of it 3. go to the last post 4. if there is no link leading to a new thread, follow it, and put that as the new current link (I think we're only one generation behind). If the thread is locked, but there's no url forward address, let me know, and I'll find the right one for you and put the link in the thread to the next in the chain. If this is too much work for you, just say so, and we'll see if someone else is willing to take it on. Thanks, Mark Everyone: We hope to have the move/ no move decision on the web site shortly. Because of the recent server change its possible Dom's problems will be over, so we're checking that avenue out first.

Yeah its pretty bad with N4.7. The individual pages work ok, but the entry page and main frame page with all the links doesn't work.Dom, can you take out the redirects to the mirror site until this is resolved? We can't afford to lose everyone that uses Netscape. |

Hey, Im new so be kind I like the site, layout is cool and simple. I myself program in PHP with the use of a mySQL database. What this allows me to do is create a "database driven web site" in other words I store all the information for the site in a database server and then use PHP to select and display it for the users. In the end it provides a streamlined and relativley fast method of web mastering. Have you ever gone to a web site where they have scores apon scores of content and you will notice ?(question marks) in the address? That site is using PHP, this very forum uses it. The upsides of PHP are ease of updating, for instance I made a Technology news site once where a news poster simply filled out a form (like this) and the database was updated and anytime someone went to the main page the site grabbed the posts off the server and displayed them on the main page. Another cool part is that its server side, so all the calcultions and work is done by the server computer (unlike javascript). When looking at the source of the page the PHP code is gone. The downsides are you need a server with PHP and mySQL support (and free ones are hard to find) Perhaps this could be a new direction for the site. Maybe for the game page (the one that the players would visit) but either way just some info to feast on. If your looking for more info on PHP check out www.php.net |

Just one note on potentially using PHP. Quite a while ago a guy interested in setting up a web site here wanted to use a dynamic web-page setup using CGI. At that point (more than a year ago) it was nixed as being too demanding on the server. So we would need to check with the admins here before seriously considering 'going PHP'. |

Hi Simon:Its really best if the model has an intro bit on what the player gets out of the model, and what in general is in it. Then the detailed model. I think you need to modify the model to put in some of the things we've been talking about also. IMO its better to wait a few weeks and have something that can stay up unmodified for a while. That's because it can take Dom some work to put it up... |

Dom:The new 'rate us on Apolyton thing seems not to work. The two fields I'm given to vote want my name and email, and then it tells me password is incorrect! When I put my PW in the Email slot, it gets me further but says the rating field is blank even though I entered a rating. I expect something is mangled in the script. Could you check it out when you get a chance? Thanks, Mark |

Thanks Dom. I found out one more thing after voting... you need to put in a review. Simply rating the site is not allowed, or so they say. So you may want to add (required) under the review box.The other request I've got is for you to change the expected date on the demo 5 central page since we've blown by it again . Why don't you change it to 6/22/01. Thanks! -Mark |
