One bug that I've noticed (not sure if it's the BIG ONE that you referred to). The white box that hightlights the active unit doesn't always get removed when another unit is activated. It gets a little confusing sometimes. This may be related to the overlap/offset problem in the tiles.Note to everyone: the light gray space evident between tiles and the offset seen in one of the tile sets is a bug that will be removed in the next demo. We're probably going to use a "design" GUI to alleviate some of these simple, but irritating problems. |

Great imrpovement!Anyway i didn't see it mentioned in the doc, but everyone remember to have ur nums lock off for movement! Also the tyles overlap each other and it doesn't look right esp when the mountains disappear behind the fields. |

LGJ:Thanks on the numlock thing. I forgot to mention it Many things are off by a bit... Some just require time. Others need things to be discussed first (FE final interface configuration, particular hot keys, etc.) If everyone lists minor bugs (that Bother them) and major ones here then Chris W. can include a Known bug list in the doc. (You out there Chris?) Paul:
I fixed the white box several days ago. The newer pre-release demo has that fixed. |

LGJ: Part of the reason that the tiles do not line up correctly is due to a design flaw. They are missing an offset factor (in the 2nd tileset anyay) that will alleviate some of this problem - you'll probably see it in Demo 5. There might also be a problem caused by the tile refresh algorithm (Am I right on this, Mark?) |

Yep, there are a Lot of problems with how the graphics is handled. Expect spill-overs, clipping, and miscellaneous weird sh*t. The demo's purpose is to get comments on the General direction we're heading... There's a Huge number of details that Will be cleaned up... |

Hello Peter:I Think it runs in Internet Explorer now. But you need to have the Java 1.2 plug-in. Try it... just load it as a local file (need to select All Files *.* for file type). In Netscape it fails some kind of jar security test. For someone who knows what they are doing its probably a five-minute job to get it functional, but not for me... Perhaps I will be able to figure it out for demo 5. Mark |

Ok, today i really got a chance to play the game and this is what i found that really needs to be addressed:As i was playing a really big unit i had (my muscle unit hehe) was playing defense when another civ attacked with a ship and perhaps a soldier and my unit was gone from the board, though it still registered i had it. I couldn't move it and it didn't exist as far as the game was concerned except that when scrolling through the units to move it would still pop up. |

Ouch. I have had TFs disappear at turn end, only to reappear on the next turn... Did you try to activate it by right-clicking it? Could it have been on sentry duty? I'm asking, because I generally have monster units running around too, and haven't seen this problem. [This message has been edited by Mark_Everson (edited December 21, 1999).] |

I'm bringging this thread up for one reason and one reason only. I had a few days off from school and I decided to play demo 4. I played it a few times actually, and I noticed a very big bug that has never been mentioned before. If we don't catch it now it will most likely be in demo 5 too.I was playing my first game, taking squares that I knew I could. After about 15 or so squares I got curious and looked around the map. I noticed I owned a square somewhere in the middle of Greece. I had never attacked there! So I figured it was a one time bug. It happened again and again (but with different squares, some in greece some somewhere in europe). I played about 10 times and it happened about 7 of those ten times. While, I admit, it doesn't truly affect testing of ideas, it is IMO a major bug that needs to be found and eradicated. Also someone a while back (I think it was LGJ) mentioned that bad guy #13 always got a huge advantage. I've noticed this too. And I also know the problem. Not only bad guy 13 but others as well, take squares that are totally unpopulated. This gives them an economic boost, which leads to a military boost, or at least it looks that way. I tried it myself a few times, and succeded. If we could also solve this problem the AI would play a lot more fair, but, it's not a major bug. |

I remember 2 things I wanted to add:First, this shouldn't be to hard, but can you make it so that when each turn is reset it doesn't reset the main window position (and any others) if i move them around? Also I figured out why some TFs seem to disappear. Those that get to large (more than 5 units i think) have an error and when attempting to add more units to the TF or when doing battle it will sometimes screw up and that's when they disappear. Sorry it took so long for me to remember. |

Another thing I forgot to mention about those games I played, was the one game where I had conquered about 10-12 squares and I had built about 4 new units. I stopped conquering to rebuild my military. But the military never came. I let the game go for about 150 or so turns, and had no new military units built during that time. I don't know why this happened but we should probably look into this also.I also have a request for demo 5. If possible, can we bring the F6 key back in? In the previous demos I used to like switching to a different civ to get a feel of the game from different angles. I would like to see this return until we get to the point where you can actually pick what civ you would like to rule. |

Thanks to both of you for your comments... TK: Thanks for the input. In your first recent post you said you own squares there were far away from your empire. What was your basis for saying that you own them? Did they ever produced military units that you could use? Because if you are just going by color, there are a lot of colors running around on the map, and it may just be that some other civ or culture has a color very close to yours. The thing where you never get further military units built I think is a feature of the old economic system. It will be gone with the demo five any way. As to getting rid of the F6 key, I did that by accident somehow. I will fix it. LGJ: I will look into the window positioning thing. As for the other bug, I'll try to find it although I've already spent a fair amount of time looking for it. |

The reason I said that I owned them was not only the color, but when I'd check the diplomatic status, it would say SameCiv. Although I never did produce any units out of it. |

LGJ, Have you actually looked around the map for the lost TF? I had one of my large (10 or so) unit TF's dissapear in a game i played today (this is the first time I've seen this happen), but later I found it in the middle of Greece. It seems our two bugs may be linked. [This message has been edited by Toubabo_Koomi (edited March 28, 2000).] |

LGJ:Thanks for the 'enemy unit in same square' suggestion on the TF formation bug(s). I'm just getting around to fixing all that stuff. It turns out in the routine to rearrange TFs I Never check to make sure the routine only rearranges the player's units in the square . So it should be a Real easy fix from here. Thanks for the info! I'm still working on some of the other stuff. Mark |
