Hi everybody,

Well, I think itīs time to stop being reactive and start being active again. The vacation is over!

Listed below is an idea of mine regarding the gov model, but that can easily fit into (or at least have implications) in a lot of different areas. I know (judging by the amount of responses to my gov.model draft, or rather lack thereof) that most of you ainīt all that interested in this field, or at the very least canīt see the head or tail in my ramblings. This idea is intended to replace the Geocentric rules, which, I admit where far to confusing. My idea is to replace it with something I call Central Authority or Governmental Autority, or whatever, lets call it by the first one for now. The Central Authority (CA) is basically determined by the legal status of the ruler and the governmental form (this basic number should more or less stay within the same, say, +/- 50% range for all players and all eras). The basic number can then be modified by a) the communication/transport technology of the state, b) how much is spent on administration and maybe c) the demographics. My idea is then that the players can allocate theses 'Authority Points' to all kinds of things, the more they allocate in a specific field the higher efficiency-rate is. My basic assumption is that players use the points in their provinces (divide them among them), then, when they issue an order, or perform some action in a province, the number of Authority points they have there are used to determine how well they do. You can think of these Authority Points as the level of attention the ruler is putting on the province. I imagine that Autority points could be used elsewhere too, I donīt know, if weīd use something like this maybe we should try to employ it as much as we can.

Anyway, I post this here so that you can give me your basic thoughts on it (i.e. is it workable/fun, or not?), and also to suggest maybe how we can expand it to other areas, if we want to.

Hrafnkell:

I like your basic idea much better than the geocentric power system we had. I hope it works when thought about in detail! In the abstract it sounds really good .

I agree. "Paying attention" to your military might up their stats like fighting or moving (you are sending em weapons and/or transports). Authority points in the economy give $$ or other benifits. The effect could be opposite if you dont pay enough attention. That way, if you pay too much attention to a war, your economy will suffer. Perhaps you could "buy" more points somehow (hiring more govt workers like clerks etc.). That would give you added benefits but would make the people angry (too much govt influence, kinda like today). Maybe only "buy" points later in the game or if you are a democracy/republic. Hiring workers would raise points but lower production and citizen morale.
