In the near future we will have to archive lots of the posts in order for the search feature to work. As we would like to keep all posts, we have to make some choices about those that are really important. So, do you need the old threads of this forum?thanks for your cooperation in this ------------------ Markos, Apolyton Civilization Site |

Markos:In general the old posts are still very valuable to us, with of course some exceptions. At the moment the Dukes in charge of each area still need many of the threads up and working to be able to synthesize the ideas in them into docs, and refine them. We could maybe come up with a few hundred posts at most, that time has definitely passed by and are no longer of use... What will happen to the archived posts? I looked in the Apolyton forum, but couldn't find a description of exactly what you mean. Does archive mean back up and then delete? Will the archived threads still be available to look at in some way? If they'll be here somewhere as HTML files, but just not to append new posts to, I don't see that as a really big problem. (although part of the attraction of moving to Apolyton in the first place was so we could use your search to find old posts that are on a particular topic.) If they'll be archived, but completely unavailable, then I guess I'd need to have them sent to me so I can put them up somewhere. If possible I'd like to wait until our web page gets up, and then give you a list of old outdated posts. Anyway, if you could let me know a little better what's involved, or give me a link to such a discussion I'd appreciate it. After that we can think of a way to handle this. -Mark |

1) this archiving is not "standard procedure" for the forum script(at the moment anyway)2) yes, the old pages will continue to exist. Thing is that there wont be an index page(you'd have one dir with all the html pages) but we might be able to do one easily ------------------ Markos, Apolyton Civilization Site |

Markos:If we can fake up an index page I think any thread that's more than 10 days since its last post could safely be put in it. BTW I'm going to be out of touch on vacation from 7/1-7/10 and on a business trip 7/14-7-17. I will try to check in at the forum at least a few times during these times. I won't be able to get at my email then, so leaving a message on the forum will be better for those time periods if you need something out of me. -Mark | |
