i finished my first deity game! whoo hoo! it wasnt hard at all, once u got used to it. of course, i didnt do to well, as my discoveries pretty much mirrored real life. (industrial revolution in 1840 somethin, automobile in 1920) my final score was 2237, and my civ rating was 290%, making me Ryan the Magnificent. It wasnt too bad for my first game, but it was honestly the first time iv seen those black hat guys in my whole life! i hate those little punks. i wrote a story of it while i played, ill send it to the viking scribes. congradulate me ok?

LOL, SG!

It is true, though. As a confessed Civ addict, the thrill of victory soon fades and I find myself sneaking upstairs for another fix, much to the chagrin of number one wife.

And kudos, popcorn et al.

While we're on the subject of diety wins, I had my first just a couple of days ago. Actually it took sending my ship off on about 3 different 'parallel endings' (I saved it just before on one save, and just after on another), one the chinese landed theirs about 1 year before mine, the second the indians were the only ones who beat me (by about 2 years), and the third time I beat everyone by about 2-3 years (with a 33 7 7 1 1 1 space ship, 8 years). Thanks for the info on ship times.

Yah, that is my first and last (at least for a while) diety game. I now want to play a few games where I just rip the feet off the competition .

Well done, popcornvendor and airdrik, but can you just stop at the first one, or do you already feel that irrestible urge to play again and try to do better?

I also had my first deity game and won it recently. It was tough, but not as difficult as I imagined, because I have picked up all the important skills in managing happiness, rush-building wonders with caravans, Odeo revolt years, etc when I played King and Emperor levels. Actually I didn't enjoy the game as much as I hoped. I planned to win by space conquest, but I found I'm always busy conquering other civs so that I can make sure that they don't have enough infrastructure to beat me in the space race. I was busy conquering them also because I wanted to make sure I destroy all their nuclear weapons (AI's use nukes like programmers use if-else statements - just an everyday matter). So, I had to do a lot of micro-management and fighting. I found it rather tiring. I would have enjoyed it more if I could switch to democracy for some time (I remained on Communisim most of the time), sit back, relax and develop my science and my cities.

Anyway, I'm happy that I've managed to win on deity. It was certainly challenging. But I think I'd enjoy Emperor level more, since I won't feel so pressured to fight wars and destroy other civs. I'd prefer to enjoy Civ2 as a civilization building game rather than a war game.

... and congratulations to you, too, hecose -- I know the feeling well, but if you knock the AI back to the stone Age early enough they never have the infrastructure to support building Manhatten - and I sure as hell don't build the thing ...

Scouse Gits, I tend not to attack AI's early. I find it quite difficult because early units are better at defending than attacking. So I tend to focus on expanding my own civilization.

I for sure don't ever build the Manhattan Project. Really hate the way the AI's use nukes. I also let the AI's build the Apollo Program unless I get impatient (they are too far behind).

Actually, regarding my first deity game, I think I was a bit phobic about AI's overtaking me in the space race. That was because I was almost beaten to Alpha Centauri at one of my Emperor games. I started a thread earlier about the Carthaginians beating me to the spaceship launch. Thankfully with the help of forumers I managed to take the Carthaginian capital and recall their spaceship. Since that game I have been a bit phobic about the spaceship launch thing. If I were less phobic about it I would have spent more time peacefully growing my civilization and improving my cities, instead of forcing myself to war.

Congrats to airdrik, popcornvendor, hecose and all the other guys who have finished playing a deity game. I have never finished it myself but Im slowly getting there thanks to this forum where I have learned a lot of new things.
Anyway, when playing as a deity, how many civs do you have in the game?

I have kept saved games of my diety level so far. I will probably put them up. I'm still playing it as other things have distracted me lately. Saves I have 4000bc(before city built) 3000bc, 2000bc, 1000bc, 1ad, 500ad(?), 1000ad, 1500ad, 1700ad, 1800ad give or take a year on few on some. Some saves probably will have odd units cause I made some new ones(archer on horse for example).

A couple pics notice how poor I am. I'm not big on trade routes

Top 5 Cities perhaps I should "trade" with that persian city.

Scouse Gits...... your lack of faith in the Manhatten Project disturbs me... i would have thought an ics'er of your stature would have the odd tactical nuke in your 1000+ troop army

Every game i play i drop at least one nuke...... after all... the motto is War4ever
