I thought of that while reading some of the posts in the Civ 3 forum. One Apolytoner said that Firaxis should make sure to include an EXTRA HARD SADISTIC level so that not everyone ends up ridiculing the AI as it happens in civ 2. (that's what he said). Another Apolytoner questioned the number of those who can beat Deity «continuously» saying it's a minority and Firaxis should be focusing on pleasing the majority. Now, I know that this forum is not the best place to have this poll since there a lot of Civ Deities in here But still. In all honesty I call you to answer this: what is the level you usually play and what is the level that you can actually win more times than you lose. LEVEL I USUALLY PLAY Chieftain Warlord Prince King Emperor 1 Deity I play other things (OCC etc) LEVEL I CAN WIN Chieftain Warlord Prince King Emperor Deity 1 Other things (OCC etc) |

I almost always play at emperor and lead before quitting. I've toyed around in deity with mild success.------------------ "There is no fortress impregnable to an ass laden with gold." -Philip of Macedon |

I usually play in Prince because I want to enjoy myself, not challenge myself. I can certainly win in King, and presume that I can win in Emperor as well. I have played several times on Deity, just to example the setting, but never finished a game on that difficulty level. I created a little fantasy/medieval scenario on the Deity setting just to see what difference creating the scenario on that setting would have on the AI. There seemed to be a difference in aggressiveness, but I haven't yet decided on what to attribute it. In historical terms, during the "life" of a culture, there will be very few opponents who amount to a "Deity" setting. Most historical conflicts equate to, (IMHO) the Prince level of play. Others may disagree.Salutations, Exile |

i play deity.... i mp in deity and i win all ai games in deity..... although admittedly i lost the first couple in deity. I never bothered to learn the lower levels as i always played emperor in civ1That said the usual tricks of civ 1 worked on emperor and i conquered the world my first game. Wasnt' quite so easy in deity but i learned a couple of tricks and conquering the world only took three tries...... sheer numbers will do that for you The spaceship was a different learning curve and admittedly took me much longer....... Now i do any of this in my sleep.... which is why i only multi play |

I play on deity, and can win maybe 30-40% of the time I can win consistantly on emperor and below. BUT... I play with two restrictions: I won't go fundy, ever, and I won't switch out of democracy once I've switched in. Without those restrictions, I'd be winning at deity more consistantly.------------------ Dig trenches, with our men being killed off like flies? There isn't time to dig trenches. I only play multi games, so since there's no advantage for a particular civ, it doesn't really matter which level I play at.The levels I play at are king and up and I seem to do ok. |

Deity, Deity. Playing MP has made me a lot better at dealing with barbs, and I expect to win every time at deity level in SP. |

Currently I'm trying to win on Emperor. And 40% of the time I manage to win. On King and lower I win easily, and on Deity I survive, most of the time.

Most of the time on Deity... but if i really want some "cool fun" all the other levels are challenging (to a certain degree!).Fiddling with the RULES.TXT is even more "crazy" than keep on beating Deity. Expecting changes in most scenarios has it's appeal too since you can get your hands at objectives and witness the occasional jewel of a unit that makes you wonder how really tough a game can get. Emperor is the minimal for "serious" gamers (if there is such a gizmo in this world!) |
