Who is your least favourite civ to end up next to? Is it always the game's most agressive ones (Mongols, Vikings, etc) or do you sometimes get suprised by civs you expect to be nicer than they are?The worst I've found are the pesky French for some reason. The Indians are never as friendly as they should be either - the real Gandhi would never have ordered the kind of atrocities I've seen him do in games. |

Hm..Let's see: The Mongols, The Zulus, The Russians, and The French seem to be the biggest treaty breakers and sneak attackers against me.------------------ All knowledge begins with the phrase: I don't know. |

I don't worry 'bout individual nasty Civs, but rather with groups of nasties. For instance a line up with Russians(me), Zulus, Vikings, Spanish, Mongols and others is far more scarry than if they were Japanese, Germans, Aztecs, and Indians. I get more worried when they can all gang up on you. One or two are easy to handle, but 3 or 4 gets me concerned. |

Definetely the Mongols,Zulus, and Persians. They are always the most annoying late in the game especially if they are in fundamentalism. The Americans on the other hand are pathetic and never put up much of a threat. |

My theory is: It depends whom one plays as...English have trouble with French, Spanish; Americans with Sioux, Japanese; Romans with Greeks, Persians etc. I try to stay out of trouble by playing as Prince Incognito, leader of the Unknown tribe (Anonymouis wise men) |

When I played SP, the civ I always hated the most were the f'in french. They were always very competitive in the tech race and annoying to dispatch. Their emmisary is also such a homo that I couldn't wait to put his head in the guillotine. The sioux were always a pain in the ass too. |

Here I have a draw: the English, the Russians and the Zulus. GRRR!! I hate when the English call me just to say that they have discovered X... From that moment, I start to plan their inconditional annihilation. Cannot manage to be at peace with the Russians. Just bloody war. The Zulus? When I see them, everything turns red and I donīt rest until I wipe them out. |

Well ... I guess my list goes something like ... - The people at No 1 & No 5
- The Welsh
- The Scots
- The French
- and everyone else who knows me ...

Oh! ... you meant in the game ... it would have to be the Babs - they are such good trading partners in the middle game that I am almost persuaded to let them live if they prove to be my immediate neighbours - only almost however.------------------ Scouse Git[1] "Staring at your screen in horror and disbelief when you open a saved game is one of the fun things of a succession game " - Hueij "The Great Library must be built!" Expansionist/aggressive civs are the 'hardest' which is Russians/French.Militarist/Aggressive civs like Zulus can sometimes be screwed by the map, for example if you have two civs seperated by a small strip of water, and the others know your cities are there but have have no boats, the militarists will often just be caught in a loop constantly building obsolete units and 'patrolling' the coast...happens especially on earth map when a civ restarts in Britain and can 'see' your cities in France...endless elephants patrolling around... Most annoying: Late game nuke by Ghandi when you have space flight.

How about a good neighbour? When I play English, I always include the Americans, tho very competitive in space-race and top civ-wise, they're not too sneaky warmongers, and they're a joy to trade with, paying top dollar! [This message has been edited by George Garrett (edited March 27, 2001).] |

Zulus, English, and Mongols are the worst for just coming along and starting off aggressive. The Spanish, French, and Persians are the great back-stabbers (mostly pesky, since you see it coming). And never let anyone build Manhattan Proj if Gandhi's in the game, since he will use them! |

Lately ive played a lot on large and medium real world maps and i find russians most difficult opponents. the nasty sneak attackers can actually be easier, since they will start wars that i can easily win with defensive units behind city walls, then buy one of their cities, all without taking a repuation hit. The expansionist civs however will build lots of cities and beat me at my own strategy of early game expansion. On real word map Russians are worst with their good start position, others can be hemmed in. Lord of the Mark |

I am sorry, but like, H-E-L-L-O people, the greek! They are really annoying expansionists. It's hell trading maps with them as they always have a huge uncovered territory which is full of wandering units. They expand at a very quick rate. THe Egyptians do it as well, but the egyptians are much nicer. Just came up to mind, the Greek are extortionist. I don't remember what I wanted from them, I think to declare war on someone, any way, I asked, they said ok, but pay us up. I grunted and payed up. And then they also ask for a tech. Ok, I had enough buffer zone so I gave it. Plus I wanted my two biggest enemies to tear each other apart. And then they say: That's really nice but we want another tech! I was so furious. I refused and they thanked me for the presents and went home. I can only remember what I planned to do to them as the thing it self was so inhumain that my sub concious erased it. |

hm..... yup although its been many moons since i have tangled with Makeo Horse... you seem to be kicking ass these days.... i reckon were ready for another round of drinks at the local tavern of your choice in SP Ghandi late is a pain..... so are the French. Mongols Zulus Vikings are pains in the early going as they will always fight.... however i find it is the Romans and Aztecs whom are the best ai civs in terms of expansion and perfection...... if you leave these guyz for long enough they will cause a headache or two.
However.... all of this is really moot as most of my games don't survive modern warfare |

Mongols and Zulus are both pretty agressive, but the Zulus listen to reason sometimes. Mongols attack against overwhelming odds because I won't pay them my entire treasury in tribute. like, what's up their butt? |

I'm with you Sirotnikov. I hate the Greeks, and could not believe that nobody had identified them until your post. They were the first Civ to ever Nuke me, and I remember it!! They always seem very aggressive on first contact, expand relentlesly into "your" space and sneak attack for no reason - boats and caravans particularly. I rarely have a problem with the Russians, as I often play as them because they have loads of great city names. Mongols never seem to develop any science. The Japanese often give me problems.
