Number of turns per player Let's aim for a happy medium - as many as you can manage in 72 hours, but not to exceed x where initially x = 20. As the game progresses x will reduce - probably to about 5 in the latter stages.

Ok!Max 20 turns/player early in the game sounds fine to me. Do I read your post right if I assume we at some point voluntarily restrict the number of turns to some lower number? BTW, something just struck me! I've had problems downloading files from hotmail for some time now (uploading and sending files is ok, though). Is it too much trouble to send me the file via ICQ? We either have to be on-line at the same time, or, you can send me the "transfer file"-request and have ICQ running until I come on-line and accept it. I can go on-line any time of the day if necessary. If this is too much trouble I can send you my real e-mail, although I suffer from net paranoia and prefer to be anonymous. Carolus |

Oh, I see you just edited in the saved games. I take it you have played your turns... No need for icq then, is there? I just download the 3050 BC save, play my turns and send it to the next guy, right? Carolus |

We're off - I had a start that I had been saving for that ever farther away day when I could sit down and play out an OCC game completely - so I have used it - four specials, Whale, Wine and 2 Fish - 3 techs BW, CB & WC -- found two huts both contained Scrolls - CoL & Monarchy (I think I would have preferred an odd NON unit instead. Revolted in 3250. Will send to Carolus directly ...------------------ Scouse Git[1] "Staring at your screen in horror and disbelief when you open a saved game is one of the fun things of a succession game " - Hueij "The Great Library must be built!" Thanks SG for setting up this game! My schedule is rather busy right now but I always have the nights.. So as soon as I get the game I try to play my turns during the same evening. That 72h time limit sounds quite good.. let's see if we can make this game a 'lightning OCC bloodlust' one! |

Once upon a time there was a small village. The small village had been abandoned by its former king, who's thirst for worldly pleasures was not easy to satisfy for the local taverna. Without the guidance of a benevolent, yet firm, leader the people of the small village now lived in fear of the barbarian hordes, rampaging the country side. Then one morning a stranger, a tall vagabond, appeared. You could tell from the way he walked, that it was a man used to encounter (and overcome) difficulties and danger. The man entered the taverna. "Water from your finest spring", he demanded, "for I have travelled far!" Thus begins the story when a man without name or history started his journey to become a legend during his own life time. His subjects called him Carolus Rex. 3000 BC Discover pottery, currency next choice 2750 BC Chariot (hut) 2600 BC Barb archer destroys the wine mine... 2400 BC Discover currency, writing next choice (trade was not an option) 2200 BC Met the French, gave them pottery, not able to get tribute 2050 BC Barb horse from hut, threatening the warrior that entered the hut The settler is working on that mine again. Edited: Added a couple of 's! Carolus

Good Carolus, now you also must play sucession games AND a chess game. Because, if I understand correctly, you also play MP, it could give me the edge in our David vs Goliath contest. ------------------ Oh Man, when will you understand that your greatness lies in your failure - Goethe |

Well, what should I say.. the situation isn't too bright for us. Now I understand the true sense of Hueij's words in SG's tag.. We have a size 3 Rome with one warrior garrisioned, that means we must keep one worker as elvis to avoid riot. We have three shields (as barbs destroyed the wine mine). Of those one goes to the chariot support, which leaves only two to Colossus building. It will take 57 turns with two shield.. Here is my log: -2050: Traded monarchy for masonry with the French, they demand currecy, we give that and as gift CoL + warrior code. They are cordial but refuse the alliance -2000: Barb horse escaped and our warrior is safe! The other warrior closest to Rome tries to kill the barb archer who is blocking his way back to Rome. Well, this wasn't poor warrior's lucky day It was very close though -1850: Wine mined, hut: Trade!!!-->French -1500: Chariot returned home, elvis got fired immediately! -1400: Hut: barb archer & legion , we bury our brave warrior under a big oak -1300: French demands 50g from us, we refuse, war (sigh) -1200: Writing-->Literacy -1050: Colossus (finally!) -1000: Rome will grow to S4 next turn and a warrior will be completed as well to maintain martial law During my millenium I could only build the Colossus. I decided not to rushbuild it; I could have done it four turns before, but thought we can spend the gold (139 or something) better. Wonder shield is 4g when improvement shield is only 2g and we haven't got library yet.. The diplomacy situation is grim too.. we have only met the French who is extremely hostile to us. We really need to find the other AI's soon Save game is sent to EST & SG. Good luck! |

Yeah, since your Queen moved to g3, I think I've got the edge. My last "quiet" move, Rook to c5, should leave you in deep trouble. ------------------ Oh Man, when will you understand that your greatness lies in your failure - Goethe |

I'm in many games, but the OCC, the gigamap and the lighnting should finish pretty soon, so I think I can handle this one too.------------------ Oh Man, when will you understand that your greatness lies in your failure - Goethe |

First, I changed my username 'Marko_Polo' --> 'Marko Polo' by removing the unnecessary underscore from my nic. In the process I seemed to lose my post count as well Then to my proposition: we have now 8 players. I was thinking that could we split to make two teams 4 players each? The second team would start from 3050BC save so that the game start would we coherent for both teams. It's not too late to do that because only 4 players have been involved yet. IMHO we could have these advantages by doing this: (1) with two teams we could compete like we do in the current OCC succession game. That would be fun! (2) we all get to continue the game sooner I have been thinking why so many succession games seem to start with great enthusiasm but then the commitment of the players seem to wither during the course of time. I have one explanation: if there are too many players you'll get detached from the game. I mean, when you get the game next time too much have changed since you left the game to your successor. You'll lose the feel of continuation which is one of the basic element in Civ-games. The very essense that keeps you addicted to the game.. am I right? Well, does my idea get any support? I don't want to impose my opinion here and want to say that I can live with 8 players as well if the majority wants it. Just trying to get more out of these succession games!

LOL, can't wait to get there! Well actually, I couldn't wait.. I started playing 'ultimate OCC bloodlust challenge: large world with large land masses! I managed to build my ship in 1870 (15-1-1-1-1-1) and launched it 1916 with 36 years of flight time (IIRC). I'm now closing to 1930, have over 60 cities and only pathetic remains of other civs are left. I actually launched way too late my space ship, because it doesn't take more than max 10 turns to finish all the resistance. Then I'll switch back to demo (from fundy), start WLTxD's to max the score. My capital has produced nothing else than vet stealth fighters since I started 'bloodlust' part. Using them and paratroopers I have hopped from island to another conquering. I also have a massive army of howitsers & spies which I move with transports from continent to continent. I've built some airports to help repairing my fighters & (rush)buying new ones as well as airliftings units. I keep incrementally rushbuying new units all the time, first building barracks of course. Then I need engineers to clear pollution and building roads/railroads. I really love this conquest part, it's so fun!!! I can't wait to start my final offensive!

Peace established. They don’t want to exchange techs ! A caravan starts going in their directions. Another one is BTW already moving eastward. 25 BC we’re revolted smoothly into a republic. Thanks Oedo ! We start celebrating. 50 gold from hut. 1 AD, we give republic to the French and the Americans. Trade for mapmaking with the latter. 40 AD now size 7. We stop the celebration. 3rd caravan build. We find french settler irrigating ! Consul Julius can’t refrain from playing 2 more turns to make the 1st trade connection. 80 AD philosophy from a hut. 100 AD Banking discovered. Trade route with Marseilles (70 gold, +4 trade).
