I posted this question in the multiplayer thread, but it doesn't look like many people look there - how do I go about setting up a multiplayer game using Civ2 MGE and a null-modem cable between my desktop and friend's laptop? There's no null modem setting in the game... thanks... |

To tell you the truth, I don't know. I'll bump it to see if someone does, though. |

I don't think that it is compatible with null modem. That's why I installed a LAN between my 4 computers.------------------ Save the whales, collect the whole set!! There might be a way for win95 to simulate TCP/IP with null modem though... |

You're right, that can be done, unfortunately, I have no idea how. I remember a few years ago reading the instructions on a web page how to do it in Win95. I don't remember where this was but maybe you could search around, it's gotta be out there somewhere. John-SJ edit: Actually, a quick search on Google for "Null Modem" got THIS LINK, I think this might be what you are looking for.

Thanks, John. You're a legend. I'll give that a go when my friend gets back after New Year's. Let you know if it works... |

Ah well, tried it yesterday. Two approaches, neither of which worked.DCC - unpredictably connects/doesn't connect/cuts out... it's weird, nothing will change between it working and not working. The closest we got to actually getting the game working was the Host picking his Civ, and then it crashed. But we couldn't get to that point again. (SHOOTS BILL GATES IN THE HEAD) Null-modem drivers: should be more promising, because I have got dial up networking to simulate a LAN before over the modem. So if I could get the bloody computer to think the cable was a modem we might be okay. But all the modem.infs I've downloaded so far utterly failed to connect the two computers. BUGGER BUGGER BUGGER. PLEASE can anyone help? I lost an entire afternoon to this madness yesterday. We're very keen to play, but this kerfuffle is slowly sapping away that desire... |
