I'm currently in a game where all the other Civs are in Democracy. Obviously, this is no fun for me and my spies. Is there any way to influence the other civs to change their governments?

conduct an massive assault on them. it usually takes a few turns of intense warfare before they decide to go fundy though.

you could always activate the cheat mode.

hammer them into switching govt like DA stated. Once you take a city or two they will be more than happy to switch to fundy and then you can really let them have it .

Send in your spies, but target the happy improvements - knock out a few cathedrals, temples etc and the cities will be forced into revolt - this will not make the AI government fall however (cheat!!!), but it will make the Democracy increasingly untenable ...

It's probably after 1750 and you are probably supreme.

If so, just ask to talk to them. You'll get a message saying that they have have revolted, they'll say something nasty to you, and they'll immediately emerge from the revolution as a lower form of gov.t.

It's probably because they hate you, want to say nasty warmongering things but their senate is just as full of doves as yours is.

It's rather fun.

The feature doesn't last for ever but does last quite a while.

If you are not supreme - well, then, having some peaceable neighbours until you are may be no bad thing.

Forget forcing the change of govenrment. Use those spies to break down those city walls and move right on in. Use spies to tear down city improvements and the AI will soon have no government left.

Another great trick to use against a Democracy is the old shield siege. Move your units onto every shield-producing square in the radius of one of your opponent's cities. He'll lose all but one of the units supported by that city at the start of his next turn. This should leave the city thinly defended and ripe for conquest.
