I asked my ISP about this recently having been patient about it for several weeks. They gave me a few URL's to try which loaded fast, had me make a few adjustments and these two things still load slow, 6 minutes this last time for Apolyton. ICQ never does unless I push "offline/disconnect" then push connect. The little green pedal on the red flower simply spins around and around till it says can't make connection, then I push connect and it happens. BUTT these things never used to be like this. The only thing I can imaging is that possible my moving about this same time somehow had an effect. OR ELSE THE SIGHTS ARE JUST SLOW! Anyone have a suggestion? This only is a problem uppon initial sign on. Right now it is all working fast and fine. [This message has been edited by Crustacian (edited November 06, 2000).] |

This site certainly has some download speed problems. With my cable connection, the download can vary from single figure bytes/second, which is ridiculous, to 40+K/second, which is acceptable. It can fluctuate within minutes, or sometimes even seconds. I never have the same problem with any other site. It has been said that heavy site usage can slow the site, but I've had the problem happen at all times of the day and night. The ICQ thing is just an ICQ problem. It's annoying. Sometimes you can't connect for a whole day. ------------------ Founder, ACS Pedantry Institute Founder, ACS Gourmet Recipe Exchange Troll & Hydey Wrangler Mono Rules! #33984591 |

finbar, thx for the tip on Apolyton. I remember a couple times ICQ would not load all night. And sometimes it was persnickity about loading on the odd occasion. This seems pretty consistant for ICQ these last few weeks. Never connecting upon sign on, but once the "cant make connection" announcement is made it usually connects n/p then. Do you still think that is ICQ, or could it be my breath? |

one thing i have noticed with my icq, is that when i am gaming and i lose connection to host computer, about half the time icq goes down as well, making connection to the game i was in an impossibility. From now on i will write people with cable or dsl's ip's down or leave the message box open until done for the night. I am sick and tired of being boooted from games and having the ai build the great wall or pyramids------------------ Do you shovel snow in your birkenstocks? |

Use the Copy and Paste options to transfer the IP from the Host's ICQ message to enter into the game. That way you always have a record of the IP which you can access via the History option. |

It's ICQ. Lots of people have the connection problem. Alexander's Horse recently had a whole night where he couldn't connect. Next morning he was fine. ------------------ Founder, ACS Pedantry Institute Founder, ACS Gourmet Recipe Exchange Troll & Hydey Wrangler Mono Rules! #33984591 |
