Sick of "Be not afraid..." and that other attributed to Magellan? Think with this gee-whizz web tech they'd be able to flash a new quote for your edification/amusement while you wait the timeless two seconds for your post to appear?

Then why not put your favourites here for the attention of DanQ and MarkG? For starters (war related, courtesy Bergen Evans):

Peace itself is war in masquerade.(Dryden: Absalom and Achitophel)

An unjust peace is better than a just war (Cicero: Ad Atticum)

Men grow tired of sleep, love, singing and dancing sooner than of war. (Homer: Illiad)

War, that mad game the world loves to play. (Jonathan Swift: Ode to Sir William Temple)

In war actions of great importance are often the result of trivial causes. (Caesar: De Bello Gallico)

War is the statesman's game, the priest's delight,
The lawyer's jest, the hired assassin's trade.

(Shelley: Queen Mab)

"The greatest happiness is to vanquish your enemies,
to chase them before you, to rob them of their wealth,
to see those dear to them bathed in tears,
to clasp to your bosom their wives and daughters."

-Genghis Khan

"We shall fight on the seas and the oceans.
We shall fight with growing confidence and growing
strength in the air.
We shall fight on the beaches.
We shall fight on the landing grounds.
We shall fight in the hills.
And we shall never surrender!"

-Sir Winston Churchill, World War II.

"That post (by St. Leo) simply confirms my belief that St. Leo is the smartest person on Earth." - Imran Siddiqui

"Do not ever, ever, post a thread in the wrong group." -Lee Sojot

I prefer the media's latest news-creating technique, wherein they blame NASA for launching rockets into space and losing them. In reality, NASA hasn't done much of anything since 1969, when they sent three guys in helium-filled space suits to New Mexico with a black and white camcorder. I still remember where I was when I saw it on TV. -Scott Adams

"640K ought to be enough for anybody." - Bill Gates, 1981

'Mythology' is what we call someone else's religion. [Joseph Campbell]

How about

AUTHOR: Jean Paul Sartre
QUOTATION: 'Hell is other people.'
ATTRIBUTION: From his 1947 play No Exit, recalled on his death 15 Apr 80

I also recall one of Satres more ironic and classic quotations was

'Witty quotations mean nothing.'

Although i'm probably paraphrasing...

Finbar,

I plead guilty to excessive impatience. I have never waited for the post to appear automatically. I always hit the back button on the browser and return to the thread that way.

It usually is so fast that not only do I wait, but I have never fully read the quotes! Are the ACS quotes posted somewhere?
