With CivIII still not set to be released until, preliminarily, next year, it is not possible to make a choice right now. To do so would be grossly premature.

And, to that point, when CivIII is released, can one not choose both even? Each are going to be apart of Firaxis' Sweep of Time, and will almost certaintly complement each other.

I did not like Alpha Centauri at all because it was just too slow to play multiplayer and the tech tree was a little hard to follow... but that's just my opinion.

Well, personally I recieved SMAC a year ago as a birthday gift, and I rather like it: there are a lot of features that I found lacking in Civ2, such as improved diplomacy, goverments, and design-your-own-units.

That said, for me it ranks next to MGE, because it's not a true Civ, since it's set on another planet.

I long for the day when I can get a well improved (which I think this will be) Civ-sequel from reliable Firaxis.

Dan-I'm not sure I understood what you said: are you saying they will be included in one game (sort of like Fantastic Worlds and CiC are both in MGE)? Or do you simply mean that they will go together well?
