I don't know but it says it allows you to modify any value in the game.As it runs.So I guess you can give yourself units, techs, improvements, wonders, maps.maybe you can change the value of terrain.Change your treasury."any value" is fairly broad |

It searches for a value you type in in the active memory of the app, then asks you to change it several times until it can pinpoint that memory address that holds the variable (or pointer, or whatever) and then allows you to change it. ------------------ St. Leo http://ziggurat.sidgames.com/ http://www.sidgames.com/forums/ |

My god this program is evil! It totally elimates any technical barrier for cheating! I've heard about these things but I never bothered to check it out. Do these things also work in MP!?Sigh, some things never change, I remember doing this sort of thing back in the 8-bit era (peek-poke-sys) for the good old infinite ammo/jumps/lives poke. But that was on a C64 and you had reset the machine and find the exact hex codes and jump back into the program. You had to know how it worked. But with this...I can hardly imagine people actually using this program in Civ2MP. |

Yeah um, what he said. I still don't know what it does or how to use it but JUST HAVING IT ON MY SYSTEM gives me the confidence to feel like I could whoop War4 and Khanman ANY DAMN TIME I LIKE. [This message has been edited by Alexander's Horse (edited April 10, 2000).]

Does this work for MP games... Do you have to be the host, or does it matter. Now I know no one would ever want to admit that they have tried it... but has anybody experimented with it to see if it does work for Civ MP? |

After hearing of this program I had my brother(a computer geek)download this, since I have trouble even adding new icons to my civ files. We played a MP game where he hosted and used the cheat thing. This is what happened,I was unable to detect it, but did have some strange reactions, first he had unusually high lag as host,we tried the same day without cheats and his lag was fine. It also made my mouse do wacky stuff, why I don't know. We saved each turn so I could go back and see if I could spot the cheats, and it was quite obvious as gold went nuts and so did his building. Here is my end observation of this experiment. Alot of people cheat playing civ online, alot of league players cheat. People not only use programs, but use 2 computers to pull the map clean and see their opponents.I have even been accused of cheating because of a good start by souse76(the chief)and he knew this because he was using a cheat program to look at my map.I love to play civ online and recently after many months have found some great people to play against,Wooz,Seankhan,Acidreign,Alia23,Oedo, Phatman,Empress,Joxur(jluchford),and Darkstorm. These people I know play an honest game and I am sure there are others, but these are the ones I choose to play with. I don't worry about saving every turn, setting passwords,etc.... and that adds to the fun I have playing, which is what this game is all about, fun. Nuff said [This message has been edited by vlad (edited April 14, 2000).] |

so it does work then? But fairly obvious?Hmmmmm....I spose a good "cheater" would have something more sophisticated. This is kinda old.Oh well.I've played with Empress and I can/will vouch for her.I strongly believe/hope the vast majority of players are above board. They don't cheat. They are just better than me.But it only takes 1 bad apple..... saving every turn is double edge. You find things out you really don't want to |

Why would anyone want to cheat at anything when others are competing to reach the same goal? I've always had a hard time understanding the thrill someone has of winning when they use no intelligence to do so, other than to find a way to cheat and get away with it. Does the cheater actually believe they are more skillful when using a program like this to gain a victory? I just don't get it.Thanks for posting the players that do what they should...play fair. That is the only way to play this and any other MP game. It's not a bad way to go in life, too!

Right. Why cheat? I've asked this many times. Where is the thrill? And why should the developers concern themselves with "cheat proofing" their game? It shouldn't be a priority or concern. The level of thinking required to be successful at Civ would lend to the belief that the majority of players are into it for the competition of the game, not the competition of best cheat. |

Cheating exists, 'cos cheating pays...if I cheat at Diety, and win big - or merely lie about it, to my fellows here, most would be too polite to doubt me, I would even receive some accolades. In RL I would go into politics -now that's REAL cheating! - and get to rule a country. It's our own fault that cheating(I'm referring to RL now, I've nothing against it in Civ SP) exists - we should be more sceptical. Thus endeth my Sunday sermon |

I have nothing against cheating really. I never really try to conquer everyone very quickly, I usually have long games. It suck to end at 2020, so I usually cheat to knock it back to 4000. I also take some techs away from civs and give others some techs. It really makes the game different, even if I do kinda know what I'm up against.Cheating cos you can't win as is means you're an idiot. Cheating against the AI is something entirely different. I should have made it more clear in my rant above really deals with cheating when other human beings are involved. Such is the case with MGE. If it makes the SP game more enjoyable to use the "Cheat Menu", then go ahead and do it. The term "Cheat Menu" is not really all encompassing. It is a testing and editing tool as well. The bottom line, IMHO...those who cheat at interactive multiplayer PC games are pathetic. Those who cheat OTHERS in RL are just as pathetic. It is in RL that their true character comes to the forefront. Those who cheat THEMSELVES in RL are in for a great awakening down the road. Cheating...Just Say No! |

well said.I play for fun more than to win and it seems to me that cheating would remove the fun.Not much point in it then... sadly this an old program. There are better ones out there. Its not practical to include security features with games. But that is what it would take. Then some genius finds a crack...
