Does anyone still actually play Civ II? It is really cute to think there are still some diehard fans plugging away out there. To me, Civ II is almost a retro game now, kind of like playing Donkey Kong original.Bkeela. |

I must admit I do still enjoy playing the Mars senario. But it does get tiresome not being able to stack production orders. I also bought Test Of Time, but was pretty dissapointed. My main gripe is that the multi-leveling tends to get very tedious, and I sincerely hope it isn't implemented in Civ III.Bkeela. |

Does anyone still play Civ2?!? OF COURSE! That is the one, and only game that is guaranteed permanent residence on my hard drive. It's something that you can keep going back to - absolutely the best game ever. |

Of course~!... Got the scenarios (conflicts in civ) and FW loaded on top ... but hey its still Civ II. Havent tried either CtP or ToT yet but may in the future. It sounded like from the reviews of CtP that that version addressed some of the more tedious aspects of the game (I tend to build massive amounts of cities - sometimes over 100 - which makes city management ultra tedious - heck one game can last a month)So the short answer is again... Civ II stays on the hard drive... maybe for a very long time. ------------------ LordEmperor Platypus "Platypi shall inherit the world"

Still play civII? I'm still fairly new to the game, but I can't see it coming off my hard drive anytime soon. I learn something everytime I play, sp or mp. I started on the playstation version, and I must say, it was civII that convinced me to buy a computer in the first place. Now if I could only find someone that doesn't play 2x2x games on the zone... |

Haven't played a full game for at least 2 years. I'm trying to remember when I bought the thing. 97 I believe. It was shelved about 6 months after I purchased it. Just installed it back in August after I bought TOT. Now just for scenario creation. |

Of course there are still Civ2 players around. It's the best TB game I've ever played and I think it will be very hard for the creators to make Civ3 better. But I'm sure they will manage to do it. I'm currently playing OCC which is much fun to do. Haven't reached the highest levels yet, for I haven't perfected my strategy. But I keep on improving. GREAT FUN this game |

Even though I've known about Civ since the beginning, I didn't get around to start playing it until a year ago when I bought MGE. Needless to say, after 12 years of gaming and hundreds of games, it is my favorite and imo, the best strategy game of all time. Had no interest in CtP, SMAC, ToT because of their sci-fi/fantasy setting which has no appeal to me whatsoever. Really hoping that Civ III will incorporate some of the advanced tech modeling BUT down at earth starting at 4000BC. |

I like the above started playing civ two in April or so of 98, so i was a late bloomer as well, just before Christmas i got the MGE version and now it is the only one installed on my hardrive, i have the clones too This game is unreal and i think the site only adds to its role in the whole civ 2 experience. Sure there are flaws but its still #1 after all this time and that is something i cannot say about any other game i have played As for civ 3, better ai, little upgrade on the graphics, easy interface, and a few of the clone ideas but surely not ALL ,as that would ruin the experience. A couple of things from civ 1 and TBS, not RTS and i think i will be a happy gamer, but please don't give me SMAC, TOT, or CTP! Surely something superior will come along

I have a Macintosh that is a permanent home to Civilization II. Also have the Gold Edition, but have removed it from my hard drive because none of the betas were capable of fixing an error w/i the program that caused it to crash half the time upon exit. Just received Civ: Call to Power and have played it a couple of times ... not quite as enamoured with it as I am CivII.CYBERAmazon |

"Why did colonization never get an update? Its well better than civ and civ2." - ellisd_83I tend to agree with you ellisd_83. After I played Colonization, I just couldn't go back to Civ I. It was a fantastic game which well deserves a sequel. (And I loved the way it tied in with Sid's Pirates game, another favourite of mine.) I was actually fairly dissapointed with Civ II. It was only the graphics that seemed to be improved in my opinion. Bkeela.

I started a col game just the other day! Haven't finished yet. IMHO, Colonization, up to year 1650 or so, is one of the absolutely greatest games ever made. Col after 1700 is just about the worst. Once a year I reinstall, start a game or two, but seldom finish. Most often I wipe it from the HD in disgust of late-game shortcomings:1) Combat system is broken. The random generator is so flawed, I always end up cheating (reloading). 2) The unload bug. I usually play Dutch, so trade is mighty important. When a type of goods is boycotted, trade routes cease to work. You have to manually unload the wagons. PAIN if you have a large trade empire. 3) The AI is more stupid than in any other Civ-game. Always war. 4) Why ARE those units hanging around my colonies? All colonies end up blockaded. 5) Although you have 4 distinctly different nations, there really is only one way to win: Make a nation of 5 to 20 towns (I guess 10-12 is more than enough for me to manage) on one continent. Defend well. But as I said, the early years are delightful to play. In my current game, I had a good start, killing the two camps of the Tupi nation gave me half a continent to develop into an 8-city empire. I just started a massive attack against the other half, hopefully killing the Arawaks, the Spanish and two French cities before they understand what hit them. C.
