thing is, I rarely ever use nukes (even if all my cities have SDI)

just because I feel sorry for the little people who live in the towns I bomb.

well, maybe it's a hangover from my C64 days ... there used to be a game there called LCP (little computer people)
it was basically a little guy and his dog living in a house that covered the entire screen

I might be reluctant to nuke cities, but this has never stopped me from being a warmonger

I despise nukes. One of these days I'm going to disable them. My objection to them is the fact that the AI rarely, if ever, cleans up the pollution. The manual states that the AI will be as agressive on pollution as the human. NOT!! I pounce on every bit of pollution ASAP, but the AI ignores it. I understand the rationale for having nukes pollute, and I agree with it. However, as I tell my three-yr-old son, if you can't clean up your toys when your're finished, then you can't play with them to begin with!

I have never seen the AI clean up pollution. Has anyone else seen AI engineers working on pollution squares?

I actually have seen AI engineers cleaning up pollution. Blew me away. Granted, it's only been twice and sometimes I get into big shooting wars using nukes (I don't get mad, I get even) giving ample opportunity for pollution cleaning, but I have seen it on rare occasions.

As for the original question, interesting. I thought these WERE real worlds.

The AI doesn't have to, it cheats. The same way when barabrians capture a city and the terrain around it magically improves over time...

I hate nukes too.
I also somehow feel compassion for the little people in the cities...

Nuke 'em all, I say. I managed to coat the entire land area of a world in pollution once.

I don't very often use nukes, try to avoid building Manhattan Project. But on the few occassions when I have nuked an AI city, the next move is usually for me to take it over, and so I have to move my engineers in to clean up the pollution so there can be food and shields and trade to go with the few workers that are left. Or when I get nuked, I often have troops near enough to either blast the paratrooper that has taken the city or to move into the empty city and replenish the troops garrisoned there. So it's interesting to hear that you have seen AI engineers cleaning up pollution. Probably on automated mode and they have nothing near by to work on, so they go over to the pollution.
Have a happy Sunday.

While I will occasionally use nuclear weapons if forced to, I can tell you I never follow one of the AI's practices with nukes - firing an ICBM at one of your own cities after it has been captured by an enemy! How can you do that to your own people? Instead, I will stop at nothing to "liberate" them, even if that diminishes my chances of winning. What's victory without honor?

Well theoretically there are an infinite number of universes, and in an infinite number of possible universes EVERYTHING that is possible happens SOMEWHERE. So techically in some universe somewhere what you are playing on your computer is actually being acted out.

I only use nukes on the last existing civ.. and only if I can capture all the cities in a few turns... just line up the howitzers before hand to take out the pesky cities w/ SDI.

They are useful for breaking through large groups of enemies and I will use them on the sea without hesitation.. I always make manhatten project if the game lasts that long.. cold wars are fun

I'm the peaceful kind of guy so if it was really acted out somewhere, I would either stop playing or toggle "restart eliminated civilizations" on...
