I just downloaded my copy last weekend from Mr Tembas Site. One big hint for you when you start to play. For those units that his readme says you can't build again if you change production - Don't use those cities to view your possible unit production choices It auto-reverts to settlers if you do.Lot's of luck and have fun. I'm not sure you would want the updated version. It wasn't done by Harlan and I actually think the original is better than the updated. |

I agree with Makeo, thats why the original is on my best on net and the edited version is in the hosted section You CAN switch back to the unbuildable units! Click on AUTO and then CANCEL. Presto chango back to making those kick ass ents and eagles. |

There's actually a fourth version of the scenario made by Harlan Thompson, where he made the scenario is a lot harder. I downloaded it oncw but since I formatted my harddrive I can't find it again. |

Anybody has any good strategies for winning this scenario? I tried so many times but never succeeded. Minas Tirith is hard to hold on to and Frodo keeps getting killed. |

Yes - this is a grwat scenario. I sufferred a marginal defeat playing first time with no reloads. I lost most of Gondor but got Frodo to Mt Doom and wiped out most of the enemy but the clock just beat me before I could easily re-capture all of my lost cities.... Best game I've played It was on the Apolyton dl database along with my Gwani modpack but something really odd has happened there?? Does anyone know? A lot of files have just disappeared - Lord of Rings was no. 4 in the modpack Top 20 with over 300 downloads (my Gwani at 16) but it's all changed?? I've e-mailed Kwang....------------------ *THE DEITY*

it should...the same principle applies. Just click on "AUTO" and then it should say "MILITARY ADVISOR" "DOMESTIC ADVISOR" or "CANCEL" and then hit cancel. Easy. |

The best strategy in this scenario is, I belive: Use the pikemen as cannon-fodder to hold of the forces from Mordor, disband most of them and build rangers and use them for defence, pillage all the fortesses on your side of the river, and move your pikeman to the front. When the enemy breaks through your defences, make sure you have pillaged the fortresses, and when you feel you can't hold the city north of minas tirith, let mordor take it, and bribe it, and you will probalby get two or three Nasgûls. Use Aragorn, the ents to take Isengard. Go through Sauruman teritory with Frodo and Sam, cross the river anduin and enter Mordor form north. In north use all your unique units in Rivendell an Eagle's eyrie to destroy all troops marching against you on open ground. When they start to run out of troops, you can begin yor offencive. Only rely on rangers to protect your cities in Gondor, pikemen are useless. If you follow this strategy you must win. |

Version 4 has some better graphics and is more difficult to win... As far as I can remember Harlan made it more difficult to bribe units. He also added some more unique units (e.g. Merry and Peregrin) (so no more winning by bribing Mr. Temba)There aren't any sounds (or at least I don't have them) with v4, though. I might add it to my website... (see FANTASTIC WORLDS moves! thread) |

Well, the site that Valmont suggested did have a LOR Mac scenario and the ReadMe file/instructions said Version 3. However, Caspian and I have been trying to play it as a PBEM Hot Seat game and finally realized that his PC version 3 was different from my Mac Ver.3! My version has 57 Units in the Unit.PICT file while his Unit.GIF files has 70 units mapped in different squares! Needless to say this caused some confusion!Caspian feels that my Mac LOR must be version 2 rather than 3. Does anyone know of another Mac conversion? Should I get brave and try to convert the PC Vers 3? Did anyone every find out about the mysterious PC ver 4? Can Harlan Thompson be contacted? and who is John Galt? ------------------ Different is GOOD! AOL IM--JacSamDad |

QuickSilver, download the file shown above for Ver 4.1 or go to the ACS Scenarios page for ver 3. Either way there is an extensive Read Me/instructions file that will explaine the game. You have read the trilogy (3 books) "Lord of the Rings" and the Hobbit by Tolkin, haven't you? If not, go get a copy of the Hobbit followed by the trilogy. You'll love them! Hi, Ian pointed out to me that this discussion is going on- I don't check Civ2 discussions much anymore. Glad to see people are still interesting in playing this scenario.Version 4.1 is indeed the latest version. There are sounds for that version too. I've got em, and will send them to SidGames and Apolyton soon. Jorrit from SidGames recently sent me a message asking for the latest versions of all my scenarios. I'll have to dig around and send them off- I thought everything I did was out there, but seeing how noone can find the sounds for these, that must not be the case. What's this about a "non-Harlan" version of this scenario? I never heard about that, no one asked me any permission about fixing my stuff. One last thing. I've given up on doing Civ2 stuff myself, but this scenario could use a bit of tinkering. Specifically, I was always bummed that I didn't have enough room in the events.txt to do everything I wanted. I've heard though that some of these more recent CD-add ons have increased the max size of the events.txt file. If this is true, I'd give an open invitation to anyone who wants to add to that file to take advantage of that space, plus fix whatever bugs there may be. Let me know if you're interested. Harlan PS- By the way, version 4 is much harder. I wanted it to be a big challenge and get rid of loopholes like bribing.
